Baby keeps waking up by hitting head - Cot bumpers?

Hi,

Sorry - I've researched this topic for hours but can't seem to come up with any definite answers! My 4 month old is a very wriggly sleeper and about 4/5 times a night will wriggle herself to the left hand side of her cot and hit her head then wake up crying. I always go and move her back to the middle but lo and behold an hour or so later the same happens. Are bumpers really so bad? Are they worse than her hurting herself by hitting the sides? Are the "breathable" bumpers padded enough to stop her hurting herself?

Thanks!

I have the breathable ones and they are padded enough, they really are. I do catch my 6 month old trying to rip them off sometimes, but apart from that they are great. She is a very active sleeper and she seems fine, even when she wakes up with her head wedged against the side.

what's wrong with cot bumpers? I had one for my daughter and just about to do so with my son - should I not? Have I missed something?

have a look at FSID website - you are fine to use them. they used to be (wrongly) associated with cot death but as long as the baby can't yet pull up and you keep the ties out of the way, then there's no reason not to use them

My DS does that too and has been for months (he is nearly 15 months now). We got some Bumpsters from Jojomamanbebe which have really helped as he likes to sleep with his head against the top of the cot. They wrap round two cot bars but there is still space in between and above them so ventilation should be fine.

We also put up a picture strip on the side of the cot he mainly leans against.

Hope that helps. He has slept much much better since.
