What does your dc wear in bed at the moment?

Now that the weather is changing (hoorah) and my DS's room is not getting as chilly during the night as it has been in recent weeks, I am a little unsure how to dress him at night. Last night I put him in a long-sleeved bodysuit, a long-sleeved t-shirt and then a 2.5 tog gro-bag. This is a bit lighter than the bodysuit+sleepsuit combo that he has been in for the last few months.

The temperature in his room did not drop below about 19 degrees last night, and although he didn't feel too warm to my touch, I wonder if I should be putting less layers on him? He is 6 months old.

Temperature has always been something I'm a bit paranoid about, I admit, and I realise that you ultimately have to follow the advice on the Grobag leaflets and also gauge your own child's temperature and use your judgment, but I was just wondering what you have found to be the best solutions during periods of change in the weather?

My DD is 6 months too and we have the same issue.

I dress her in a cardigan, top, baby grow, trousers and socks, but the odd time she has woken up being too hot, so I stripped her down to cool, (all at 4am lol) dressed her in new baby grow cos it was a cooler one, put her pjamas back on, left the cardigan off and put her in a gro-bag.

i think the pjamas, socks and gro-bag would be a good idea, also a thin jacket or cardigan too and wrap her in a blanket. :)

it should keep her warm enough :) xx

I think better to be too cold than too warm...safer anyway.

My dd is 8 months and she is wearing just a babygro in a 2.5 tog grobag. She is always toasty.

Thank you both.

igetmorelovefromthecat - I completely agree. I think I'm going to go with the single layer under the grobag too, as the weather gets warmer.

AngelsMummyx, that sounds like an awful lot of layers - does it get very cold in the night? I am in Scotland and the most the kids wore (even in winter) was a bodysuit, sleepsuit and a 2.5tog sleeping bag.

I really layered dc3 up in the cold weather(2 bodysuits, sleepsuit and cardi) but now she's in a longsleeved body suit and a 2.5tog grobag. Longsleeved bodysuits are great for summer sleeping, but they never seem to be on sale in the summer!

AngelsMummy that sounds like way too much to me!

My 4 month DD goes in a short sleeved vest and then a long sleeved babygro which can be of thinner or thicker material depending on what the weather forecast says for that night and then a sleeping bag.

Her chest always feels warm enough and the temperature in the room never goes below 18C-19C.

As said, cooler is safer than too warm. Too warm has been linked to SIDS.

Goodness after reading some of these I feel awful! My DD has been in a vest, baby grow and 2.5 tog sleeping bag throughout winter but has always felt fine (apart from cold hands which I was told is normal). She also sleeps good stretches at night so didn't think she was too cold....

Greenone - my DS has been in the same (actually only with a vest on VERY cold nights)

I think the recommendations on the Grobag site say babygro and 2.5 tog grobag for temps between 18 and 20, don't they? I've probably always gone cooler than hotter as I'm completely paranoid about overheating, and DS has never been cold - apart from his hands sometimes.
