Clocks changing - how do I prepare?

That's it basically. He's a bad enough sleeper as it is, can anyone give any advice as to how to make the transition to British Summer Time a bit easier?! (He's a year old, and usually wakes around 6 if that makes a difference...)

At least this one's sooooo much better than the autumn one!

Elizabeth Pantley in the toddler sleep solution book recommends changing bedtime by 15 minutes a night in the 4 night run up to the clock change so that when the clocks change bedtime goes back to normal. Does that make sense? I don't know if that would work for you. It wouldn't for me as dd would end up going to bed at 5.30 which is ridiculous.

Thanks ladies. I think I was more concerned with him waking at 5 rather than an earlier bedtime!

He'll wake at 7, not 5, as the clocks go forward, hooray! Can't wait myself -our DS has been waking at 5am ever since they went back in October....6am will be a lie-in for us!

Big question is whether to keep the later bedtime or not...

Oh cool. I never did get what happened when - duh!

Great thread - I am also confused. DD currently wakes at 5am and WILL NOT go back to sleep. I don't feed her until 6am (never have) so am not sure what to do when the clocks change. She goes to bed at 7pm, so if I feed her when she wakes (BST 6am) will she be expecting to go to bed earlier? or later? or will she be better off starting the day then (essentially being in bed an hour earlier in the eve - is that right?)
Help!!!!!!

gummymum, if her current bedtime is 7pm, her "new" bedtime from next week would be 8pm, according to her body clock, with the hope that she'll continue waking at 6am.

So you'd have to decide whether you want to stick with that, or gradually bring her bedtime earlier to the new 7pm, with the risk that she starts waking again at 5am...

I'm in the same boat, but I'm tempted to stick with the 8pm bedtime - will give us more time with DS in the evenings (we both work) and having a "lie-in" until 6am.
