Falls asleep during last feed of the night

My little boy is nearly 9 months old and nearly always fall's asleep immediately after his bedtime bottle. This makes it difficult for me to bring his wind up and I am then unable to lay him down when he is awake, so that he can start getting used to settling himself to sleep. I bath him at 6.30pm and then give him his bottle just before 7pm. Any suggestions on how I can change his routine slightly so that he is more awake when I lay him down for the night. Sometimes he is slightly awake and I give him his dummy and his muslin, which he likes to hold and he more or less goes to sleep. Any advice grateful. First time mum, not sure if am worrying too much that he is not sleeping through the night. He is still in with us, in his cot. We will be moving him into his own room in a few weeks.

It sounds like a good routine, why do you want to change it?
My advice would if it is not broken don't fix it Wink
DD2 often falls asleep with her last bottle, I am not bringing wind up since she is about 4 months. (I don't think you need it with a 9 months old).
She can selfsettle, she is 13 months now.

Thanks for replying, I don't really want to change his routine as it seems to be working. He is still waking at night and needs me to settle him back to sleep either with a cuddle/rocking or his dummy and sometimes he is hungry.
I am sort of assuming that he will eventually start to settle himself during the night when he wakes.

How is he during the daytime for naps? I would advise to get that sorted first, as you'll have more time and energy to teach him to self settle during the day and night will fall into place once he's mastered that. I wouldn't worry about him falling asleep before you put him down at night. Mine does exactly the same. It's because they're so relaxed after a lovely bedtime routine. I don't think it's by any means unusual and mine's a great self settler, even when overtired.

If you're that worried you could try stirring him very slightly before you put him down - perhaps by blowing gently on his face? That way he'll know he's going into his cot but will be sleepy enough to fall asleep almost immediately.

But like i said, don't get hung up on it. I've broken all the rules at various stages with mine!
