hi
I have used moses baskets for my first 2 dc's but have always liked the cribs and ds was a very big baby and practically filled it instantly, we are thinking of getting a wooden crib for dc3 so he/she can stay in our room slightly longerd but im worried about he/she hitting the bars on the side when moving? they always show those bumper thingys around the top but are they not supposed to be dangerous? i found a brilliant cloth crib on babiesRus but the mattress measurments are almost the same as a moses basket?

how have you found yours, did the baby ever hit the bars?

We've just put DS in a wooden crib from mothercare. He didn't get on with the Moses basket so thought we'd give this a try. It's great. He does hit his hands/arms on the sides but it doesn't seem to bother him. He also likes to stick his right arm out through the bars which worried me terribly when we first got it. I was convinced he was going to get his arm stuck. He doesn't though and he's absolutely fine. We don't use bumpers as he likes to be able to see out. I'd also rather that the air could properly circulate in the crib.

I hope that helps x

Both DDs used the Mamas & Papas swinging crib without any problems. I bought the bumper for DD1 but didn't use it for very long and never for DD2. Only thing I worried about was if they could sit up or roll over early as it didn't seem very deep but it was fine. DD1 in it till 5.5 months & DD2 slightly less.

I used a crib with DS2 as DS1 filled his moses basket so quick. He was 10lb 2 when born, but fitted in it until 6 months. I didnt use a bumper or anything as I liked being able to see him through the bars (was next to my bed) but dont remember him ever banging or catching himself? He was swaddled for a long while though, and then a side/front sleeper.

I only ever used the swinging feature once though - but that might have been because my (then) 19mo thought it was great!! A static one would have been just as fine.

My DD is in a crib at 18wo. Still swaddled, though so no problems with banging the bars. When she is out of the swaddle in the morning briefly she holds the bars which is quite cute!!

I had a wooden swinging crib for mine- it was actually my crib as a baby (new mattress, obviously!) and I stuck with it probably more for sentimental reasons, as none of my 3 ever seemed all that comfortable in it Blush compared to the moses basket we had downstairs.

I've kept it though, to pass on to my children, so that my dgc can be suitably uncomfortable too Confused I just can't throw it away!

We had the mothercare one too, we bought it 2nd hand for about £35 and it was great. I only used the swinging function at the very beginning, and used it to rock her off to sleep and would then fix it in position (although there was the odd occasion it wasn't properly secured and I would find her rolled into one edge of it, at an angle Blush)

She slept in it pushed up to my side of the bed, which came in handy, I could stick an arm through the bars to pat her/let her suck my finger. It lasted until she went into her big cot at 6 months, so we never needed a moses basket.

I use one and don't have any bumpers. DS is 4 months and does poke his little arms through sometimes but it doesn't wake him up or anything. I like that I can see him in it easily too.

He can't stick his legs through the bars as he's in a sleeping bag!

I'm hoping he will stay in it until he is 6 months and it looks like there will be enough room.

My 5 month old is still in her swinging crib, she's always been very happy in it. I worried at the beginning about her getting her arms stuck but she never really has, despite liking to sleep as far over to one side as she can! Recently she has decided that she likes to sleep on her side and hold on to the bars.....very cute to find her lying there staring at me in the morning!!
