Think I have another sleepless night ahead so here I am! Would be grateful for any advice. Just moved 6.5 month old into her own room(day 3) and it's been horrendous! Previously was co sleeping with bedside cot and would wake 2-3 times at night but I would quickly settle her with patting and a dummy(shock horror) thus was able to go back to sleep quite easily myself. Since moving her, she's been waking every hour and it can be quick e.g dummy back in or go on for 45 mins-hour. She has had a blocked nose recently so dummy has been a problem even when in. Tried nasal drops and semi upright position. She is formula fed and has 3 meals per day-does not seem hungry. I have noticed she gets a lot of wind at night since solids started and wonder whether this is bothering her as she seems almost colicky(trying Infacol also). Is this just a phase while she gets used to cot? How long can it last! Should I try some sort of sleep training? Any other tips or advice re wind/dummy ditching v welcome. Thanks

Hi - I'm in exactly the same position! I have a 6.5 month old too who has just been moved into cot (I was getting woken every hour/two hours co-sleeping, plus it wasn't for me anyway...). Yesterday DD woke every 45 minutes too with wind most times, but other times I have no idea what was wrong with her. I ditched the dummy after the first night transferring her into the cot as I realized it was impossible to sleep train with a frequent waker and put the dummy back in repeatedly. I am doing a version of pick up/put down and my aim has been to get her into the cot semi-awake with no dummy.

I would say to you that getting rid of the dummy is probably a lot easier than you think it will be - I just did cold turkey and she protested a bit but eventually just fell asleep or sometimes she finds her fingers to suck. My DD did her longest stretch (3 and a half hours) on the first night I got rid of it. It's definitely worth a try. Having said that, she was back to her old ways of waking every 45 mins yesterday so it didn't last long...

Good luck!

As an outsider, it's obvious why she's waking - her whole life, she has slept next to you, she probably woke this frequently before, but heard/felt/smelt you and went straight back to sleep.

So ... you could try putting something in her cot that smells of you (the T-shirt you wore that day, for example). I got one of those soft toys that you could microwave to warm up, then you put it in the cot - they stay warm for a couple of hours, that may comfort her.

White noise maybe? Bet her room is a lot quieter now than she is used to.

If you think congestion is the problem, you could always slightly raise the end of the cot, but if you never did this in the bedside cot, seems a bit of a coincidence.

We put DS into his own room at 4 months, I was lucky, he slept better in there than with me, turns out I was keeping him awake! But the transfer from basket to cot was a little trickier, tried the above. Took a few nights, but we got there :)

Good luck :)

Oh and if you think it is wind, make sure you're not giving wind-inducing foods at the last meal of the day, save them for lunchtime!

I seem to remember with DD at this age, her tea was just baby porridge, no fruit or veg. As they get better at digesting it, you can start to reintroduce. Worth a try, anyway :)

Hello and thanks-nice to know someone else was up last night! Inlandempire-had the same thoughts re dummy but she goes abs insane without it and sometimes the path of least resistance is easiest-am thinking cold turkey as well-might be hell at the start but will make life easier later :)

Inthezengarden-forgot to mention a T-shirt is already in there and have tried a recorded lullaby in my voice from monitor too! There is a bit of a hum from a humidifier but might try radio white noise tonight. Thats a great point about solids-I have been giving her usual stuff at dinner so will try porridge from today and see what happens...
