strange sleeping position - should I move her?

my dd is 6 months old and started to sleep on her front when she began to roll over herself in the night - I usually check before I go to bed that her nose is free from her teddy so she can breathe well.

Anyway is crawling now (well a kind of belly crawl) and so spends a lot of time on all fours. Tonight she has fallen asleep on all fours - as in she is resting on her knees with her head on the bed - should I move her?

No!

Both mine slept in this position for ages. I think DS2 still sleeps this way.

My dd slept like that every night from the time she could roll over until she was 2. It worried me a bit at the time but the HV said lots of babies do it, and as long as she could roll she would be fine.

Oh good - did not really want to disturb her as she looked quite peaceful

you could turn her on her back and put 1 or 2 pillows on the side of her (the edge of the pillow is levelled with her ribs and not next to her face)

spookylips · 23/10/2005 21:36

BUT you might wake her up!! so its up to you

WigWamBam · 23/10/2005 21:38

She probably won't stay on her back if you move her anyway - it didn't matter what position we put dd into, she always ended up on all fours, with her face into the mattress.

tassis · 23/10/2005 21:39

I wouldn't

spookylips · 23/10/2005 21:40

i used to put 1 pillow on babas left side as soon i put her in the cot, as she used (and still does) roll onto her left and never on her right side !! (Strange!)

I have been a childminder for 14 years, and I can reassure you that LOADS of babies sleep in this position, in fact I would say MOST of them do. Once a baby can roll over, you are fighting a losing battle turning them back. If you move her, she will probably get back to it anyway, so leave her be. .

Ds is 5 and often wakes in the morning with red patches on his knees and forehead, because they're just about the only parts of his body that touch the mattress!

Don't worry about it, it's perfectly normal .

Thank you all - mind is now at rest.
