Co-sleeping and the rolling baby

My (almost) 5 month old started rolling back to front this week (she can't roll front to back yet), ad last night she kept trying to roll onto her tum in her sleep!

This would be fine if she had her own cot, but we have a very small co-sleeper which is ever so slightly higher than our mattress. She kept zooming and faceplanting onto the bed, fast asleep!

I don't want to have to sleep right up next to her to keep her from rolling over and suffocating herself on my bed. That's why she's got her own sleep space! Will this stop? Should I just start putting her to sleep on her tum? Honestly, I almost turned her round last night so she'd roll into the crib bars instead of into me!

Both my DC slept on their tummies from an early age as both rolled v early. DD could roll around the room at 4 1/2 months! HV told me to stop turning her back as I was constantly having to do this and was exhausted. Both did turn their heads to the side though when on their tummies and still sleep this way now.

I co-slept too with a side car cot and used towels, blankets etc under the mattress to make the levels the same. Perhaps this would work for you? I did find that both DC liked to wriggle until their heads were lodged into my arm pit so used to sleep with pillows wedged behind my back! DS (2yrs) still likes to sleep like this if he gets in for a snuggle!

I have a similar problem but DD is in her own cot in my room, but she wakes when on her tummy and cries out in her sleep so I roll her back. This starts at about 4.30am at the moment. I am trying to teach her to roll back through play in the day so she can right herself in bed but this is going to take a while. All tips welcome!

Sorry this isn't much help but all babies must go through similar phases, I'd be confident about leaving DD on her tummy if she were more mobile. Tinkerbelle33, your little ones were very sensible turning their heads, DD has fallen asleep on her hands once but otherwise she's not figured this out yet.

They will get there I am sure, good luck InvaderZim.
