My eldest stopped the nap at 22 months (just when ds was born...) and my ds is now more or less out of the habit (unfortunately) at 2 and 1 month. If you dd is still sleeping well at night then its obvious she still needs her naps. If you don't want her to have them, keep her awake and put her to bed at 7? Then you might not have the early start. They say that 3 year olds need about 11-12 hours sleep per 24 hours and sounds like your dd is getting that, although in two doses. Mine go to bed around 8 and wake up about 7.30 - 8.00 which is much nicer than 6.30! For me anyway, you might be a family of early birds.

DD, nearly 4, is definitely happier if she has a bit of a nap

Gobbledispook · 19/10/2005 15:02

ds2 is 3 early November - he's dropping his naps in the sense that some days he has one and other dayshe doesn't. Often he falls asleep when we get in from nursery around 1.30pm. If he doesn't, he's really, really tired and stroppy around 4pm so really he does still need some sort of nap.

I'm sure ds1 wasn't sleeping at this age but they are all different.

oh thanks,

i would like a longer lie in the mornings, but it doesnt really matter about that. my 12 mth old is up anyway!

she is so gorgeous when she is sleeping..

ill not worry about it then.

My two sleep from 7.30ish to 7am-ish. Ds has just had to drop all his naps because he started Reception, but he still has a nap at weekends and he's 3. Dd will be 3 in Dec and she still naps about 2h in the afternoon in her cot. She can manage a few days of shorter naps, but after 3-4 days it shows.

PrettyCandles · 19/10/2005 15:07

No he#s ot 3 he's 5.

And I'm typing Cod-styl.

nailpolish · 19/10/2005 15:07

My ds has just turned 3. He started dropping his naps (I suspect too early). He was naughty, grumpy and a complete nightmare!! I gave it a couple of weeks and then one days insisted that he had a nap. He has an hour a day nap now and is happier for it! I think we will wait a bit longer!

polly28 · 19/10/2005 15:21

yes sound asleep at the moment.i wake him up after two hours.

he doesn't sleep every day, preschool days(twice/week),and any other busy activity day.

still sleeps 12 hours at night and has to be woken up in the morning.....god I'm lucky. My dd was never like this.

handlemecarefully · 19/10/2005 15:28

Yes 3.3yr old sometimes has day time naps (not every day, perhaps 3 times per week), and when she does it is a nightmare since she is then not properly tired for bed until 21.00

OrribleOliveoil · 19/10/2005 15:41

Not at the moment but my god does she need it! Started playgroup at the start of Sept which nicely coincided with her nap times, grrrr. Is 3 on Sunday though so after halfterm she can go mornings and will be able to have nap again.

She is a completely different child, really naughty but it is because she is completely exhausted being awake all day.

Roll on November.

nailpolish · 19/10/2005 15:44

olive, that is what she does, goes to the playgroup in the mornings then has lunch at home and a nap (and it nicely times with dd2's nap - dd2 is 12 months)

so i kind of think im lucky

that will be me in November, bliss, my little angel will be back again.

I used to time the naps to coincide as well!

gemmamay · 20/10/2005 12:44

i wish - my dd is 2.4 and refuses to sleep at home (will for about an hour at nursery) that means by 3pm she is miserable and I am wanting to swap her for another child!

this came to a head on monday when she was v.tired had a massive paddy at our activity class thing on monday pm that i put her in the car and drove home.

she fell asleep 2 mins down the road!

scotlou · 20/10/2005 12:55

My dd was 3 in August and still needs a nap - otherwise she is a complete pain by bedtime! She doesn't get a nap at nuresry now (unless she actually falls asleep) and by the time teatime comes I'm tearing my hair out!

missycantstop · 20/10/2005 12:55

ds is 3 next month and dd is 2 next month i always put them to there room for an hour where they know they can either play with there toys or sleep its completely up to them but they do go to bed at 6pm and get up at 7am. (most of the time they play in there rooms). It gives me a break so i can tidy up get lunch ready and feed ds2 who is 12weeks.

nutcackle · 20/10/2005 12:56

Ds will be 3 in December and I recently tried to drop his daytime nap but found that he then woke up alot in the night.

He is now back to having a nap but I have shortened it from hour and a half to an hour.
