Nightmare nights with 4 month old - HELP!

I have posted this in Feeding too; I don't know if it related to breastfeeding, but I am desperate!

DS2 is 18 weeks old today and we are having a terrible time at night. He is ebf, and slept 'well' until 12 weeks. We were having one long feed in the night at this point between 7 and 7am. Then at 12 weeks this went haywire and nights have been unpredictable with more frequent feedings since then, with the odd 9 hr stretch keeping me sane. However, the last week has been even worse. He has been waking every 2 hours, literally screaming. Generally the only way to settle him is to feed, sometimes I can settle him with rocking, etc. He sleeps in my room in a cot, but on nights like this I am so tired I just keep him in my bed.

I know babies can have the 4 month sleep regression, but this has been going on for 6 weeks, and he seems extremely angry when he wakes up. I am going to see the cranial osteopath tomorrow. He rarely takes a dummy and I don't think he is teething, but who knows. In the day he generally feeds every 2-3 hours and has been distracted lately I sometimes have to take him to a darkened room to feed. In the day he is generally a happy little chap, naps twice although no fixed routine (I find a routine hard with bfing and another DS).

I just wondered if anyone had any advice at all. (I don't remember anything like this with DS1, by this time he was sleeping through til about 5am, although he was mix fed from 3 months.) Is anyone experiencing the same thing?

Similar thing here with my ds who is 4 months. Started about 15 weeks, went from being up once at night to 5 or 6 times, needed fed every time. Didn't start ax early as yours but sure is the legendary 4 mo sleep regression. It's bloody hard work. At time it started e was doing loads more like chatting more and almost rolling, figure he needs more food to do that. Now up about 3 times so slightly better. Afraid I have no advice- I just fed every time e woke and some nights end up co sleeping for sanity. Sorry no useful tips!

Sorry about typos!

Same here ... 8 weeks and counting ... Hmm

My DS has had trouble sleeping since 4 months (now 6 months)
He got his first tooth 2 days after turning 4 months and the second one a week later.

Also, he was ebf and we tried him on some baby rice before bed. Worked a treat. He has just turned 6 months and for the last 2 nights he has slept through, never done this before. Things will calm down soon, I was at my wits end, but everything just fell in to place.

Hi CamperFan

I replied to your post under feeding.

No helpful advice I'm afraid, but experiencing similar with DS. Was a great sleeper from 7 to 15 weeks then it all went pear shaped (now 21 weeks) - some nights he's been wanting fed every hour, urg! He generally wakes up in not too bad a mood though so not quite as bad as you're experiencing CamperFan. Have given up fighting with him on the worst nights and just bring him in beside me! Hope things get better for us all soon!!

Thanks everyone, just nice to know it is par for the course really, although def did not have this with DS1. Had a good night last night - it's like he knows I am getting to the end of my tether and will throw in a good night here and there to keep me sane!

Thanks happymum85, I think there is a little bit of that involved, but its a bit of a chicken and egg situation!
