Don't know why i'm posting as I know there's no magic solution, but you never know - someone might be hiding one somewhere Smile

DS has always been a rubbish sleeper. His speciality is not going back to sleep for 2 hours once awake. It's not that he can't sleep - we can have weeks where 5/7 days he sleeps through - but so often he is awake for 2 hours in the night and rubbish at settling. Last night he did this twice aaargh.

We have done CC (DS is DC3) and CC worked well with the other 2 who are ok sleepers. Twice in fact, at 6 mo when we got him down to one night feed, and at 8 mo when i dropped night feeds. He doesn't even have bottles now, just his milk from a cup.

I have been pretty crap since xmas at giving him some milk (50% of wakes) to try to get him back sooner and he also has a music light that i tend to go in and switch on to pass the time! Last night tho i had to sit with my hand on his bottom to get him to settle - not done that for months.

Think i wil try to drop the music light and might try gradual retreat. Anyone had any success with that? I have pantley's book but no found it very helpful - the milpond one is better imho.

IS the Millpond one the "Teach your child to sleep" one? I had problems with DD2 and found this book great. She ghas now started sleepign through at 14 months but has been recently disturbed ny ear infectiosn and teething pain. Try to remember that he will grow out of it... that's what I had to keep telling myself!

Yes, it is that one. I agree best out of the many i have amassed over the years! It's that not growing out of it until he's 4 that worries me....

How much does he sleep in the day ? My ds is 14 months and is really effected by overtiredness. If he doesn't nap enough in the day (or he wakes up too early from his last nap), then we also have the awake for 2 hours in the middle of the night thing.

Napping is another catch 22. If he still has a morning nap he wakes before 5, so we're trying to drop that one. So at the mo he tends to have a 10 min catnap at some point in the morning when we are on the way somewhere, and then 1 1/2 to 2 hours at lunch. His double wake the other night (2 hours at 10.30 and 1 hour at 3.30) i think was due to being coupletely knackered.
