cutting down to 1 daytime sleep

my little boy just turned 1. he has always been a great day sleeper but the last few days has refused to have an afternoon sleep. he has spent a good hour and half talking in his cot. just wondering if this is too young to be cutting down to 1 sleep and also some tips of how to do so. i'm worried he will only sleep for hour or so which doesn't seem enough for the day. he sleeps through every night from 6 to 6. thanks.

Oh, both my DSes did it around this age. I think I helped them along. You just move the morning nap later and later, if that's generally their big nap. My DS2's now settled on 1.5 hours (sometimes 2 1/4).

Mine both went to one nap at that age. The main issue I had was that they were too tired to eat lunch, so sometimes had to have a big morning snack and a late lunch. Now DD is 17 months and has no problem with eating at about 12-12.30 and nap at 12.30-1 roughly.

DS is 13 months, he dropped his am nap at about 11mths (though has just had a bought of ear infections so has been having it again for the last wee while), he wouldnt settle at all for his sleep in the morning and was finding 1 sleep too little to cope with by tea time, for a while there bed was at 5pm as he was so shattered, hopefully once he bounces back from illness he will be a little older and more able to cope with one sleep. He did tend to have a longer sleep in pm when he dropped his other nap so hopefully you will find the same ie one long nap as apposed to two shorter ones. Hope this makes sense.

my dd is 13mths and is gradually dropping her afternoon nap. She has a long one in the morning, anything from 1 to 2.30 hours from 11am. I found that the longer the morning nap the less likely she is to sleep in the afternoon. It also means she drops off to sleep more easily in the evening !

DD will be a year old at the end of the month. She only has a morning nap - at about 1 hour. Ususally, she sleeps for an hour but today she slept for 2.5 hours. She went out like a light at 7:30pm!

My two boys both changed from 2 naps to 1 nap around their first birthday. At first they were really tired early in the evening but that soon changed. Occasionally they would have a second nap when catching up was needed or when we were driving in the car later in the afternoon, but in general a (late)2nd nap meant they wouldn't go to sleep at their normal bedtime, so they didn't actually gain any extra sleep. Had to try to keep them awake!

ds is starting to cut back his morning nap at nine months! he now only wants 30mins so I imagine by a year it will be gone. I do worry about his afternoon nap though as it is only 1hr 20 mins on a good day and I think as his morning nap disappears he may need longer- when he does sleep longer (v rare) it certainly doesn't effect his bedtime (v early about 6.30pm due to short afternoon nap!).

Jess is 14.5 months and has been sleeping from about 11-1 during the day from about 13 months.... its usually 2 hours, but the last 2 days its been 3 hours! She goes down at 7.30pm and thats her til about 7am.

If for some reason she has a bad night, she will quite often go down for a moring nap at about 9.30/10am for an hour and a half, and then have another hour at about 3.30pm and still go to bed with no problems, but more often than not, its 2 hours over lunch time.... i just make sure she has had a big breakfast and she has lunch when she wakes up - usually about 1.30pm.
