Managing the transition from 2 naps to 1

My 1 year-old DD is starting to transition from 2 naps per day to 1. She is frankly right in that awkward stage where 2 naps is too many and 1 is not enough. I am wondering if it is best to stick to 1 nap per day even though some days will be awfully hard on her, or if I should allow her to have a morning nap on days when she seems a bit more tired. I don't want to risk having an overtired baby but I'm wondering if sticking to one nap everyday will help her body adjust quicker to the new schedule, rather than switching around from day to day which may draw out the entire transition period and be harder in the long run. Your opinions and experiences are welcome . . . and much needed!

From what I remember we had to do a few weeks of 'winging it' with alternate days of 1 and 2 sleeps. Gradually it became 2 sleeps every 3 or 4 days until we were down to 1 sleep.
Sometimes it depended on whether we were in the car or buggy in the morning as that was more likely to send her to sleep.

I also made sure she had a good afternoon snack on the 1 sleep days, partly to keep her going and partly to give her a fun activity to keep her awake and happy!

This phase actually passed fairly quickly.

Hope some of this waffle makes some sense. Smile

Thanks bubbles12 - that actually makes alot of sense since I seem to be going through the 1 to zero transition with DS (3 years old), and it's definitely not a "cold turkey" thing -- no matter whether I want it to be or not. Some days he simply NEEDS a nap. Frankly I think it's just so frustrating that between the 2 of them - there is nothing predictable anymore!!
