Crying when she drops off...

Hiya

Just wanted to check...my LO goes to bed around 7pm each night. She is naturally tired around then...but she goes down and has a light cry for a few minutes before settling. Is this ok? She always drops off to sleep within 10 mins of being put down. Just feel bad she has to have a little cry to get there!

I don't think it's unusual, if she settling that quickly it doesn't sound like she is distressed.

Hi, my DD does exactly the same, in fact cries as falling asleep wherever she is - in arms, sling, pram, crib etc. I was hoping too that it was ok and that she would eventually grow out of it? So I suppose I'm saying I don't know but nice to hear someone else having the same issue!

DD has always done this, only very recently stopped at 24mo (now sings herself to sleep!)

Ahh that's lovely! LO is 3 months and I am hoping she will grow out of it too. I am hoping she is just saying in her own way 'No Mum...it's too much fun being awake and playing'!

well dropping asleep is a 'liminal' state - you're neither here nor there, not really surprising if LOs find it unsettling. altho think a lot of it is also the 'do i have to?!' as well.

i used to know somebody who would say to their DC 'you can cry if you want to darling' - always thought that was a nice way of acknowledging the complaint without giving it any weight

DS used to do the same when he was very little and we were just beginning to get him into a bedtime routine. Babies cry to communicate and this is their way of winding down after a busy day full of exciting new experiences. Might be worth checking your LO isn't overtired when you're putting her down - have you tried an earlier bedtime? Otherwise don't worry - all perfectly normal.
