Why the sudden outbursts when going to sleep?

My little one has settled nicely to bed for a whle now that we really enjoyed a lovely bedtime routine of bath, milk and book, then bed. I lay her down in the ct awake. She chats to toys for 10-15mins and then is asleep. BUT...for the past 3 nights she has had a complete outburst when we have gone to sit in the chair that we usually read in, has refused her nighttime milk and then cried when I put her in her cot.

There is no doubt she is tired, lasdt night she sried for 5mins and was then asleep (slept through unti l6am), but it makes me so sad that there has been such a dramatic change and we can't work out why!?

She has also started resisting sleep in the day, but I rock her to sleep so don't feel so bad as at night when I leave her.

We have tried earlier bedtime and tonight we are going to try a little later. Any thoughts?

Hiya

Just wanted to check...my LO goes to bed around 7pm each night. She is naturally tired around then...but she goes down and has a light cry for a few minutes before settling. Is this ok? She always drops off to sleep within 10 mins of being put down. Just feel bad she has to have a little cry to get there!

So sorry...meant to post this in a new thread!

well, tonight was better. Not as chilled out as normal but after alittle outburst we managed to calm her down to sit and read a story while she drank her milk. Then she went in her cot and got herself to sleep with no tears.

Greenone - I think a little grumble before sleep is quite normal. Sadly, my little one has been having far more than that over recent nights. I think for some babies crying before sleep is just a release. My little one also goes to bed around 7pm (6.30 at ealriest and 7.30 at latest!).

i am in this exact situation... my DD (18mo) has gone from being an angel at bedtime to going down fine and then crying uncontrolably after being in bed for 10 mins. it's been 3 days in a row and i'm really concerned that she has ditched good habits and i'm going to be in for another spell of standing by the cot for 40 mins before trying tocreep out in the dark (she was a terrible sleeper until we did baby whisperer at 10 mo, but has been great since) - any suggestions would be very gratefully received

FSB - I can't really offer any suggestions but maybe a glimmer of hope as our nighttimes have returned to a peaceful & pleasant place! after about 3 nights of the screaming when we tried to put her down she went back to letting us read, drinking her milk and then settling herself. I have no idea what made the difference. BUT, we did notice a few days later that her first molar was through. This caught us completely by suprise as after her initial tears she was still sleeping through so we had no other clues that teeth were on their way! It's the only thing we can think of. She is still resisting her naps a little but I thin this may be an age thing and we may be approaching the 2-1 nap transition...AAhhhhh!!!
