Help, I'm totally exhausted...

My DD was sleeping really well, up until about a week ago she was going down (with a bf and some rocking) at about 8 and waking to be fed at between 12 and 1am and then again at between 4am and 5am.

This started changing and she was waking more like 12, 3 and 7, which I figured was a growth spurt (she is 22 weeks but was six weeks prem). However for the last three nights all hell has broken loose. She's very difficult to settle, feeds to sleep but then wakes about 30mins later, then won't feed to sleep but is rocked in her Moses basket until she settles again. She then wakes again at about 10.30, 12, 2, 4, 6; she wakes crying (well sort of gargling/crying), doesn't want to feed, arches her back and pulls away, cries and cries, has to be held upright on my shoulder and joggled, will then feed a tiny bit and fall asleep this takes 30-40 mins.

She has also gone off one of my boobs! She generally naps for about 3.5 hours a day, 1 hour in the morning, 2 hours middle of the day and 30mins at the end of the day.

My DS slept terribly (at three he finally sleeps through most nights but it gas taken this long), and I got PND, I'm terrified that if I don't deal with this it will happen again.

The HV's only suggestion was cc, but I'd really rather not.

Any advice?

I think she's either coming down with something or teething. Does that sound plausible?

emskaboo · 15/02/2011 14:13

She's just getting over a stinking cold, but is much better. I did think teeth, but she's fine during the day and neither calpol nor bongela seem to make a difference. Thanks for replying

Calpol can make DD a bit hyper I think. I always found ashton and parson's powders more help for teeth.

Ermmmmmm ear infection? Perhaps that's why she's gone off one boob as doesn't like lying on that side?
Delayed 3 months growth spurt? About to start rolling?
Can you tell I have a bad sleeper too Grin

Thanks Star, it's crazy isn't it, trying to find meaning! I'll get some teething powders, worth a shot. :)

Could it be reflux? My dd has it and the symptoms are very similar. Her symptoms started much earlier though, she is only 6 weeks now...

emskaboo · 15/02/2011 18:52

Oh MsS, that's harsh. I don't think in our case it can be, she is ok during the day, and like you I'd have expected it earlier. How is your lo?

she's ok emskaboo, thanks for your concern! HV spotted today that she actually has a tied tongue, so it's possible that some of her problems may be attributed to that, e.g. taking in too much air when she's feeding etc. So could be a blessing in disguise, I'm going to push to get it corrected and hopefully it will help...

Hope you get to the bottom of your lo's problem soon. x

emskaboo · 15/02/2011 21:12

That's good, that you've found that out. I hope it gets sorted soon. Good luck

If she is 22 weeks but 6 weeks prem, then could it be the 4 month sleep regression? Seems to hit most babies between 16-18 weeks.

emskaboo · 15/02/2011 21:47

Having googled that I think you are possibly right, DS always slept so badly I didn't notice last time! Ok, great, now what?! We already co-sleep and bf on demand, is it just time to chant 'this too shall pass'? :)

My ds's sleep was particularly bad from 18-22 weeks, then it improved - though I did move him out of my bed and into his own room around then, and limited night feeds.

emskaboo · 16/02/2011 07:51

Well last night was much better. DD woke just as often but no screaming, and she was clearly hungry each time. Fingers crossed it will pass. I'm going to focus on improving her self settling and hope that this is just a growth spurt!
