bedtime for nearly 8m old?

Hi. Our nearly 8m old DD goes to bed at 8pm after bath, baby massage and milk. She sleeps til 1anywhere from 12 to 2am depending then wakes. I feed again and she goes straight back to sleep. She then wakes anywhere from 4am to 5am when I feed again. Is this normal for her age? should I be putting her down earlier? does she still need night feeds? (she's on 3 meals a day).
thanks for any advice.

Neither of mine had night feeds after fully weaning bout 7 months. They go to bed between 6-7pm and wake between 7-8am.

I think to answer the question you need to ask yourself whether your DD is getting enough rest overall and whether the night feeds work for your family.

She probably needs around 12 hours at night and 2 naps in the daytime. Does she go back down after the second feed? Does she seem rested when she wakes up?

Are the night feeds wearing you out? Lots of babies still have them at 8 months. If they are keeping you from getting the sleep you need, there is a whole spectrum of highly controversial baby-management methods that you can explore. If you're OK with them, I wouldn't change it.

DD 7 months goes to bed at 7.30 and sleeps though until 5/6ish.

There is unfortunately no normal as such with regards to sleeping at this age just a "normal range" i.e. some babies will sleep through for 12 hours and some will be waking once or twice for feeding. Your DD does sound like she is within the normal range and as Teapot13 says if the night feeds aren't causing you a problem then don't worry about them.

Does your DD nap in the daytime?

I found getting my DD to take a nap after every 2-3 hours of awake time really helped her to sleep longer at night.

DS is 8 months and dropped his night waking a few weeks ago. He now sleeps from 7 until 5-6 ish depending. I've found he actually needs far less sleep than I previously thought during the day, he only has about 2 hours in total. What you describe sounds normal though, just waiting for the magic sleep through to happen.

thanks for all your comments. DD does tend to go back down after feeding and I only feed at 12 - 2 (whenever she first wakes) then after 4. If she wakes between these times either me or DH do the shush and pat (often repeatedly as she cries each time we put her back in the cot) until she goes back to sleep. I am struggling a bit with sleep (work full time) but do not want to use controlled crying. So guess I need to just ride it out. She does nap twice during the day but only for 30mins to 1 hours tops each time. May try putting her to bed earlier as she has been crying at bedtime lately (overtired?).

My DD goes down at 6:30 or 7. If you think 8 is too late definitely try earlier. Most people I think find this does not cause earlier rising. If she is less overtired when she goes to bed her sleep should be less disturbed and more restful, with fewer wakings.

I would suggest you try a late carb-rich supper with the bed/milk/bath routine. Something substantial in her tummy last thing - it was a banana in our house - could mean she stops waking for a feed in the middle of the night.

Chil1234 - not being too detailed but do you have problems with changing dirty nappies at night? DD gets quite upset if she needs changing and changing her happy wakes her up.
Teapot13 - have moved bedtime and she is sleeping til 12am still - but I believe that's hunger.
