Co-sleeping with crawling babies

DS is 8 months old and we've been at least partly co-sleeping since he was a month old.

He also naps in the big bed and though I've tried many times, he now won't sleep in the cot at all.

Today he fell off the bed for the first time after his morning nap and cut his lip open. I'm now terrified to leave him sleeping/napping on the bed! I've stuffed a load of cushions around him to stop him falling off the bed but he's a very determined little man!

we don't co-sleep all night but usually ends up with us in the morning, at about 5! My DS is nearly 8 months and sometimes naps in our bed but will go down in his cot. Was thinking about getting those bed rails that you can put on toddler beds to make it safer for him, as he can roll over cushions and pillows. Not sure if you had thought about this, it was only when i saw them in asda i thought about them, may be worth thinking about.

We stopped the day that DD crawled out of our bed. She managed to do it twice in a couple of hours.

:(

I would get the bed rails but our bed is HUGE so we'd need a lot of rails to keep him in there!
The fact he refuses to sleep in his cot means I suppose I'm in for a good few sleepless nights trying to get him used to the new situation :(

A video monitor might help? Maybe it's just because our house is small, but when I hear DD stirring (also 8 months, also only sleeps in our bed Blush), I check the monitor, and if she starts turning over, I leg it up the stairs! The cushions are enough to keep her in until I get there Wink

We've put the cotbed on the side of our bed and taken a side off the cotbed and securely attached it.
