Hello, my 4 yr old DD is still coming into our bed most nights and last night we had the 6 yr old in there too.
4yr old loves to be with me from dawn to dusk anyway and is hard to get to sleep of an evening. Then to have her arrive in the middle of the night and be there first thing in the morning is getting to me now.
Thing is I have not the will power to get up, persuade her to go back in her bed and then try and sleep myself. In fact I have tried this once or twice in desperation and she came back again an hour or so later. Also I don't tend to wake right up when she comes into bed with us but drift back off and doze not getting a decent nights sleep.
I have tried rewarding her for staying in her own bed all night which didn't work.

You have to be firm. She is old enough to reason with and to be told, it is not on.

As much as you don't want to get up, you are going to have to spend a few nights doing this if she is to get the message, otherwise it becomes a habit for her.

Sigh. Yes it's a case of writing the post and just knowing what has to be done really.
I have to say that I am firm with her and she has a strict pep talk at bedtime about staying in her own bed. It's when I'm snoozy that I'm weak!

I can lend you some matchsticks for your eyelids Grin

Why do you have to get up and persuade her to go back to bed? I'd have thought a sharper 'get back in your own bed NOW!!' possibly followed up with something that starts with 'or else' would be enough?

a friend of mine has just done this with her 5 year old. he reacted very badly to it - deliberately weeing in his bed thinking he could get into hers if he did that. she changed it, he weed again. she put a towel over the wee, he weed on the towel.

it's not simply a case of saying 'go back to bed, or else'. when a habit is as engrained as that, you will have all the battles of a toddler with the stubbornness of a teenager...

it took about 4 nights with my friend. one night she got about 2 hours sleep between all the antics. but he has slept in his bed for the last 5 nights now. and that is a first since he was born!

Ooh WIWRH light at the end of the tunnel. We have just got back in from nursery and I am preparing my speech to her.
Chil a sharp get back in you own bed would end in tears and propbably wake up most of the household.

Ok she got up once and announced that the bed was wet. Mystifying as she was dry. However DP discovered that she had changed out of wet jammies into dry ones. She went back into her own bed and only returned at around 6.30 am to announce that it was nearly morning Grin Yawn.
Fingers crossed for tonight.
