7wk old won't settle after middle of the night feed

My DS 7 weeks is gorgeous, but we are struggling...for the last five days he has decided not to go back to sleep after his 2-3am feed, he is FF. He goes into his cot awake at 7pm upstairs in his room, then my DH feeds him at 10.30 after which he settles in his cot (from awake). He then generally wakes between 2am and 3am for a feed, settles for maybe an hour, and then wakes every hour or so, screaming. My DH is convinced he has tummy ache, so we have tried infacol, gripe water (which he hates and chokes and spits out) but I take it personally!! I am so lucky that my DH even gets up, and sometimes will take DS downstairs at 5ish to try and quiet him down so I can get some sleep...we also have 5yo DTDs.

The other issue is that he was born with Talipes (clubfoot) in his left foot, and has had a plaster cast on it since he was 3 weeks old, although last Tuesday it was changed for boots and a metal bar, which must be terribly uncomfortable, so of course, it could be this upsetting him, but he settles so well earlier in the night.

If anyone has any marvellous miracle cures for babies who won't settle in the night, I would love to hear them!! Thank you x

OK, just heard about Amanda Holden, puts my "issues" into perspective Sad

I think your DH is right. My experience was that only patient manual de-winding actually worked. Things like infacol didn't work for my baby. In our case the wind used to attack after the final feed of the day and the 'technique' was to hold baby upright and forward, my fingers & thumb under his armpits, and keep patting/rubbing until all bubbles were gone. 'Signs' of wind to look for were a bluish tinge to the top lip and if his eyelids fluttered. When that stopped, he could be put down again.

Good luck

Thanks - thats exactly how we wind him, and he does great burps most of the time, but still the crying!

I used to think the burp was the end of the story but, with my son at least, you had to keep going .. and going... and going! If it's any consolation, it's one of those things that is very challenging at the time but recedes into the distant past relatively quickly.
