Naps not in the moses basket

My DH feels that unless our DD (12 weeks) is alseep in her moses basket, it doesn't "count" as proper sleep. She's a rubbish daytime sleeper and up until a week ago, would only sleep for max 2 hours at a time at night but would always do it in her moses basket.

Her night sleeping is getting much better but during the day, she will not sleep in her moses basket at all. After visiting my parents last weekend, they suggested I was putting extra pressure on myself and if DD likes daytime naps on the sofa/ bundled up in blankets on the floor/ on the move in her pram etc... then it most certainly does "count" and to stop driving myself mad about putting her in her basket during the day.

Would be interested to know what others think about this and if I should be perservering with the basket during the day, considering she's fine with it at night?

My DS had 90% of his naps on my knee or in the pram at that age. I still counted it Grin

he actually still cuddles in for naps at 16 months a lot of the time Blush I like the cuddles!

Not sure what the importance of napping location is Hmm

I reckon do what is easiest for you.

My DD only naps in pram - she is 6 moths.

My DS (13 weeks) mostly naps in my arms but thats probably more cos I like the cuddles... he will be put down in his moses basket. I definately count sleeps in the pram/sling/carseat/sofa as sleeps not sure why your DH wouldnt. Your parents are right, don't put the extra pressure on yourself, just enjoy the quiet wherever your LO is asleep. Grin

My DD hardly ever slept in her moses basket - does that mean that she never slept?

Your DD will outgrow your moses basket really soon anyway, so what will count then?

It is far more practical to have a baby who will sleep in a variety of places (buggy, lap, cot) so that you can get on and do things at nap time. We haven't mastered daytime naps in the cot, but do well in the buggy, lap or car seat.

My DS refused to sleep in his moses basket during the day. We bought a rocking stand and he was a big baby so could make the basket rock quite violently on our wooden floors. We used the carrycot from the pram, the sofa and a sort of blanket nest on the floor for his daytime sleeping and left the Moses Basket upstairs where he slept fine in it.

Boy always hated the basket. He naps wherever he ends up - cot/sofa/playmat/car/swing chair etc. Surely if he's asleep he's asleep, wherever it is.

I think it's a good thing that a baby will sleep in a variety of places! Why tie yourself down to having to be in the "right" place for a nap. My ds is 6 months and still variously sleeps on the sofa, the floor, his bed, my bed, pram, carseat, sling, my lap and when he was younger also his bouncy chair.

It's great that I can just go out for the day and not worry, he'll just sleep wherever if he's tired.

Same here, DD (11 weeks) sleeps brilliantly in her crib at night, only waking once in 12 hrs. She refuses to sleep in there during the day, and after a few very teary attempts (her and me!) I have given up and go for a long walk every day so she sleeps in the pram. I think it is more important that they get the sleep somewhere!

Thanks for the replies and advice - I'm going to stop stressing about the location of these naps and just go with DD's flow!

You might point out to your DH that if you have another child, they'll be tied to the first one's schedule, so might have to take naps in car, sling, pram, etc, and not always at the ideal time, and most second children survive ok.

Anyhow, anywhere, any time counts as far as i'm concerned. But admittedly it's always good to see that contented, deep, peaceful sleep they only seem to get in their moses basket/ cot. Makes me feel all warm and happy!
