moving into own room at 8 months - how hard will it be?

I'm half looking forward to it and half dreading it... just wondering if anyone has any tips?

Background: we have been living with relatives for 3 months and are just about to move into our own house (yay!). DS's sleep is pretty terrible - he wakes several times from 7.30/8pm until we come to bed and then often 2/3 hourly after that.

Should I be planning to sleep in his room?

Be optimistic and confident because your baby will pick up on it immediately if you are anxious about the change. Smile lots, in other words. Let him nap in his new room so that he gets used to the view from his cot. He'll probably enjoy the peace and quiet. Good luck

I wouldn't sleep in his room personally. Otherwise you could be sleeping in with him when he's 4! (my mum had this problem with my brother!)
Try sitting in with him until he is fast asleep, you will probably have to get up a few more times than normal for the first few nights but it will be worth it! We would take it in turns when he woke up, just sit with him for a few mins until he drifts off. Low lighting and minimal noise! My boy was in his own room at 3 months, had a few rough nights but now he goes to bed at 7:30pm - wakes at 10 for a feed then sleeps till 7. Maybe one wake up inbetween for his dummy. It will be tough but soooo worth it! :) Good luck

Just go for it. DD was in our room until we moved house when she was 11 months, and we put her straight into a new cot in her new room in our new house.

She slept really well there from the off and amazed us. She has never been a particularly good sleeper.

(And then started waking again in the night six months later, but it had nothing to do with the room.)

Good luck!
