18mo waking every 1/2 hour through the night - WTF?!?!

He nods off OK, then from 10pm onwards he grizzles, stands up in cot and after a bit of persuasion goes off again only to be up again half an hour later. This continues until we despair and bring him into bed with us. Where he wriggles and kicks and wakes up every hour or so anyway.

thus far we have ruled out cold (have put a heater on low in his room when main CH is off for the night) noise (we're fairly careful around the house and the road is quiet) nap issues (he has a good 2 hrs from 12-2pm)

Does he just act up because he wants to be in with us? We tried CC but he yelled for three hours solid for two nights and DP called time on it.. are we going to have to be firmer and try again? :(

Hi HeroShrew.

I'm afraid to say I went through this with my DD from around the same age. They do say there is an 18 month sleep regression as they are at a very big developmental stage.

Tried everything. Took away dummy, changed cot into cot bed, controlled crying, moving a bit further away from the bed each night and eventually was lacking in sleep so badly that we invested in putting a double bed into her room so at least 1 of us could get a good night's sleep!

I must say it has worked wonders and I think she just needed somewhere a bit bigger to move about in without waking herself up on the bars or falling out.

not saying you should get a double bed but maybe a single with the bar which stops them falling out

thanks foxy. you're right - he has picked up so many new tricks lately that the world just might be too exciting for him to sleep in.

I'd wondered about putting him in a bed, but he's just too daft - everything remotely within reach in his bedroom would end up on the floor. Maybe if we emptied his room of most throwable things and put an airbed on the floor next to his single that I could sleep in.. you could well be onto something! :)
