Dear Amby old-timers, Sniff, so the time has come: I need to move my son out of his beloved Amby and into a cot. How did you do it?
I thought I'd try putting him in a cot for daytime naps - but no snoozing goes on in his cot. I reckon part of the problem is that the Amby is so snug and he can bounce himself to sleep. The cot is anything but snug or bouncy. Do you have any tips?
Did you invest in some special version of a cot (I've vaguely read about memory-foam mattresses for example), or did you just bypass the cot and go direct to a mattress on the floor ... or, or, or. Eeek, pl send your tips! Thanks.

hi there

i totally feel your pain, really i do.....

we did this a week ago and all i can say is that it wont be as bad as you think.

we found that since putting him in the cot ds actually sleeps better (i say better, he is still a BAD sleeper but there has definitely been some improvement). i think he likes the space as he was getting too big for the amby- now he sleeps with his arms outstretched either side!

what we did was put him in the cot straight away and we did shush pat, which has now become a combination of shush pat and PUPD.

we used the travel cot at first, because we wanted to keep the hammock up thefirst week and spend a week just putting ds in the cot to play, to make it a familiar environment , and also so when we tried to put him to sleep in the cot we had an emergency fall back if it all went horribly wrong. after the first couple of nights went well, we put the travel cot away, and the hammock, and then got the main wooden cot out (and regained space to actually walk in our squashed room!), and he was fine.

i have to say its changed our routine quite a lot though, as wih the amby, i knew naps were never a problem i could induce a nap if i knew he needed one even if he wasn't showing tired signs, but now i can't do that unless i take him out in the car or pram...
