DS2 is 14 weeks - naps a major problem and he is chronically overtired.

he will only go to sleep in my arms, dummy firmly in, and when he starts to wriggle and squirm himself awake (frequent) i have to get up and jiggle him around in a dark, quiet place. if put down when deeply asleep he will only do 30 minutes before waking - still tired and cranky, and repeat all day. he will have 30 mins in a moving pram after a fair bit of pushing. swings, slings and car do not work to either send him to sleep or keep him asleep.

failure to ensure he naps results in hours and hours of overtired squirming, scratching batting head from side to side in my arms from anout 7 pm till he finally gives in and sleeps around 11 pm.

i have severe pnd and another child of 2.5 so finding this intensely difficult. can anyone advise please??!

have in the past used pantley's book but she doesn't have too much to say about those under 4 months ....

count DS has reflux - but now seemingly controlled by meds. He also has poor generalilsed muscle tone so undergoing some tests to see if there is a cause or whether it's just benign and something he will grow out of.

Ahh, yes, wondered if it might be reflux. I don't think DS has it - he seems to quite like lying down and seems rather pleased with himself when he pukes up! Clearly he's just a sleep-fighting loony ...

Hope the tests shed some light on things.

count my ds has never minded lying on his back for what it's worth. also doesn't mind puking up. but he does have other symptoms too - eg contorting and posturing, horrible acid breath.

That's interesting ... he has both of those, and sometimes the puke smells like actual sick, not just milk. Hmm, should get that checked out then. Thanks for replying - really hope you get some rest soon.

narmada · 27/01/2011 10:38

Do get him checked. It would be great if there was a simple solution for you Smile. Altho i would caution that DS is on acid surpressing medication and he still finds sleep really hard so I don't want to send you down a blind alley and give you false hope, IYSWIM.

Yeah, I think the main problem is that he's really alert and nosy and too fascinated by everything to go to sleep!

One last thought, count. You're BF, right? Have you tried excluding dairy to see whether any passed-on proteins are not agreeing with him? Just a stab in the dark.

My DS is like that - hyper alert. Worse/ more manic when overtired.

Yes, am bf - never thought of that. Could give it a try ... (although currently getting through the days on green and blacks milk chocolate to counteract the sleep deprivation Grin)

COunt - lindt 70 % or 85% - dairy free I think. But not sure, and maybe you prefer milk chocolate. I am getting by on the less virtuous red wine.
