my 9 month old is stuck in a major sleep regression... waking almost every hour.

she has bad mummy attachment, huge separation anxiety and only wants to be settled by me when she wakes.

someone suggested encouraging an attachment to a blankie or stuffed toy to go to sleep with. i will try anything at this point!

does this work? has it worked for you? what about suffocating? i thought toys were bad in bed?

how do you get them to be comforted by this object?

My son became attached to a soft fleece throw. We noticed that he sort of cuddled into it. I didn't realise he was attached to it until I washed it. When I returned it to the lounge, he ran up and grabbed it.

He has it in bed with him every night now, and I take it with us to places such as weddings or visiting family. I give him a bottle of milk and he cuddles it.

My 18 week old DD became attached to my scarf. I just put it over her once and she held it and played with the tassels. I think its because it smelt of me. You could try a really soft scarf, wear it for a few days and then put it next to her.

I have never worried about it suffocating them. At 9 months she should be OK.

Boy likes a muslin.

I use a projector, which doesn't go in the cot anyhow. I bought it from Argos. It's really good, with two settings for music and ocean sounds. I also use a gloworm for my ds, since he was 7mo.

both my boys have a comforter. ds1 uses a muslin and ds2 has a velour bunny - they both lie there and rub the corners to settle themselves to sleep. they got v.attached to them around 7months if i can remember. i put a few things in ds2's cot and he's picked the bunny! i encouraged it when he was younger by putting it next to his face when he was falling alseep, or when i was cuddling him if he was tired. if ds2 gets upset/tired/hurts himself he want the bunny - not me!

i also have a lullaby cd and night time lantern night light that i started with ds1 when he was 18months to help settle him to sleep - ds2 shares his room so has always had them and it really helps them switch off and get into 'sleep mode'!
