How long did it take for your toddler to settle into a bed?

My 2.5 year old dd is starting to refuse to go to bed at night. I asked her if she would like a big girls bed and she got all excited.

Because I am suffering with morning sickness at the moment and I need my sleep at night, I am not sure if I am about to make my nights hell by introducing the bed right now.

What do you think?

How long did it take for your toddler to settle into a good nights sleep in a bed.

Did they keep getting up and do you put a gate on their door to stop them wondering around whilst your asleep?

Also I am not sure if i should just move her to a pillow and quilt or if a larger growbag would be better?

Thank you

i'd be in two minds, if she isnt keen on bed right now and u take her up and settle, she'll be out. there is that novelty factor for them initially.
i'd wait til she'll happyto go to sleep after her stroy or whatever with no quibbling.

my dd settled for about 2 wks and then a week of driving me mad so it was back into her travel cot as i gave the big one away. and then i got her back into the bed and she reads herself to sleep now, that was about 6 wks ago and she was 3 this week

no gate - sure'll they ll only shout for you from the door, will they not?

hmmm - i guess it could go two ways, the novelty may distract her from the fact she does not want to go asleep or it could just help her to not go to sleep.

maybe i will wait another month or two.

moved dd into a bed at 2yrs, she never slept well as a baby but has been transformed since moving her into a bed. didn't have a gate but did have a bed guard. it is an old one we were given and is very long, went almost the full length of the bad. she never got out of bed by herself, waited for us to go in to her in the morning, and still does that now even though the bed guard has gone!

DD1 went into a bed just after her 2nd birthday. She climbed into it the first night quite happily, had a bit of a whimper as I said goodnight but has been fine ever since. She's very proud of her 'big girls bed'.She doesn't get out of bed until we go in in the morning,so haven't used a gate yet.

right you are all convincing me now...

bit strapped for cash (as usual ) and having more (silly us)

had a look at ikea website children beds and there is one for under £50 and a cheap looking mattress. do you think a cheap mattress would make it uncomfy for her. surely they weigh so little it would not matter. or should i wait and save to get her a decent one?

what is a good price to pay for a bed and mattress that is good quality?

a good mattress shouldnt cost the earth, lovecloud
my dd's bed wasnt dear, cant rem, but the mattress is fine, i slept in it when ds was a baby b/feeding.

My dd went into a bed at 20 months and didn't even bat an eyelid - we honestly had no problems with her at all.

lovecloud, if it's the Ikea Vikare extendable bed and the Sultan mattress that you've seen, they're excellent, can't recommend them highly enough.
