well, not waking up as his eyes are shut. Screams as if in pain, but does it after pain relief. cant ssettle him down, stops after 10-15 mins, and happened every hour on hour last night from 8pm till 4am.

left me feeling worn out, but more worried about what causing this. He is teething but like i said he does it even after pain relief.

any ideas??

Could still be the teeth causing pain, or nightmares?

do you really think nightmares? I had considered that but reading seems to suggest not. but i'm not convinced... given him calpol and iburofen - any hints on teething anyone??

DD - almost 7 months - often does something similar. She actually did it last night, although not for as long as yours and only once. Cry, cry, cry but she's not actually awake. I put it down to dreaming as her cries are a sort of low pitched moany sort. Don't think she's in pain. Sometimes she'll scream like she's being attacked, but when I rush in, she's not actually awake, although sometimes her eyes are open. She doesn't seem to know I'm there. It stops as suddenly as it starts. I hope this is not the precursor to night terrors when she's older.

my dd was like that when she had an ear infection - up every hour and not happy at all (there were no other outward signs that she had an ear infection). I'd get your lo checked just in case as ear infections are very common in babies, young children. DD ended up with antibiotics for hers.

Guess what?! He did it all the next night too! Wouldn't open his eyes, real sleepy - by 6am I was convinced he had something terrible!!! Ear infection and antibotics are clearing it up. Funny thing was after I got the emergency Dr appointment he was laughing and giggling at her!! was soooo mad, but glad he was ok!
