DD (15mo) waking throughout night

I posted last week about DD's problems in going to sleep, but things haven't improved, so am looking for more advice please.

DD is 15 mo, and has never slept through the night. We went through a stage over Christmas where she would only go to sleep if I sat on the floor by her cot and she held my finger. We decided that it would be best if DH could get her to sleep instead of me, and that seems to be working, but her night-time waking has got much worse.

Last night was fairly typical, she went to sleep at 7:00, then woke at 11, 2, 3, 4 and 5, when I got up with her.

When she wakes during the night either DH or I go through to her room, and sit with her until she falls asleep again. I know that this probably means that she looks for us when she wakes again, but I don't understand why she's waking so frequently :(

Her sleeplessness is affecting us all; DS (3yo) told me this morning that he went in to see DD during the night as she was awake and crying Shock, so that must have been another time she was awake in addition to the times we knew about.

Sorry for the long post, but I'm trying not to miss anything out. I'm looking for some suggestions please, on what we can do to help DD sleep a little bit better...

Hello

Just wanted to say that I find myself in exactly the same boat. DD here (22 months) went to sleep last night at 8.00pm. Woke up at 11:30 and then every 1 1/2 hrs until we got up at 6.00. n This is a pattern that has been repeated for 8 nights in a row now. We have NEVER had anymore than a 3 hr stretch and I am really feeling it too.

No advice but you are not alone and I hope someone bobs in with some advice.

Mrs M x

Sorry to hear that you're going through this too Mrs M :(, but it's nice to know we're not the only ones...

We were thinking of perhaps buying her a light projector to see if it would mesmerize her (clutching at straws really)

Ooooh, I like that idea. I may just explore it myself.

Huff - is she teething? When DD (now 18 months) was pushing through her molars ~ 14-16 months she woke every hour when they were cutting, it was dreadful. It does get better once they are through, check her mouth and if they are pushing through try calpol before bed. I have a light projector that I sometimes use with DD, but find it too stimulating to actually send her to sleep. She also has a Fisher Price soothe and glow seahorse that works much more effectively (it also worked for 9 month old niece when we had her recently).

Thanks AllSheep - she's only got 1 tooth so far :( so her night waking could well be teething related. We've tried her with and without Calpol before bed and tbh it doesn't seem to make too much of a difference, unless she's in obvious discomfort.

But I think I'll have a look at the FP seahorse, willing to give anything a go at the moment! :)
