4 month sleep regression, is this inevitable?

DD is 13.5 weeks and not too bad she wakes every 3-4 hours for feeds. I'm just wanting to prepare myself! I've been working on improving her nights (earlier bedtime, a routine and trying to improve an early morning waking time) but is this all going to unravel whatever? The ginormous thread on here suggests so!

No, but it is pretty likely.

It's a bit depressing isn't it, because you just thing you're getting somewhere and feeling optimistic then it all goes haywire.

The good news that once through it, things get MUCH better.

hmmm, ok thanks for putting a positive spin! I wondered because the NCSS book suggests starting sleep training from 4 months not mentioning this may in itself be a challenging (bad?) time.

DD1 never had any sleep regressions.
I will shut up on DD2 (but not as bad as many on here)

I 'think' that those books, even the better ones (which I believe NCSS is) wouldn't sell very well if they left you to fend for yourself during the 4-5 month hell until your realise post 6month that they get there themselves anyway, - would they.

I think having something to DO during the difficult couple of months can make you feel better, more in control, and ta da when you get to 6 months or so and the baby is sleeping much better you can feel jolly proud of yourself!

Not all babies go through it, but a huge number do. That is why weaning used to be at 4 months as the fussiness was wrongly interpreted as hunger (actually it IS hunger, but that is because the developmental stage their are at means they don't feed properly during the day because they don't want to miss anything).

You know you can prepare for it a bit, but offering more 'snacks' during the day to give your milk a chance to get a head start!

I have been really scared about this too but DS is 5 months on thursday and have had no problems (yet!) in fact he started reliably sleeping through from 4 months!
