DD (2) taking ages to go to sleep at night

for about a year now DD's rough routine has been

7am I wake her up
13:30 nap
15:30 I wake her up
17:00 tea
18:00 bath
18:45 stories in bed
19:00 lights off
19:15 sound asleep

but for the last few weeks she has been taking longer to get to sleep (she just lays in her bed singing or talking to her toys Smile) - it's more like 20:00 that she's actually asleep and has been waking up herself around 6:30-7am (again, she just lays in bed amusing herself)

She is absolutely sound asleep when I go in to wake her up from her nap - I have to wake her very gently & slowly otherwise she gets everso upset!

I was planning to cut her nap-time down, but one friend told me I shouldn't bother changing anything until her night-time sleep became an issue Hmm, and another told me I should move her bedtime later - do either of these suggestions sound sensible to you?

I'm expecting #2 in April, so would really like to make any changes to DD's routine now before it becomes an issue rather than having to think about it when I have no brain due to a screaming newborn keeping us all awake!

I don't see the problem. If she's lying quietly for a while before dropping off, that's normal. And she's getting a good 10 hours before she wakes up again and is happy to lie there amusing herself. I think you have a very happy, relaxed child, you're doing the right things and you shouldn't worry or change anything.

She does love her bed! Grin

So you think I'm worrying about nothing then? (wouldn't be the first time!) I have no problem with her amusing herself for a little while before she goes to sleep, but now it's getting to be over an hour I worry I need to address it before she starts getting bored & starts wandering around.

She was chattering to herself until 20:15 last night & she was singing again at 6am this morning (although she was also coughing a bit, so perhaps that woke her up today?)

I moved her nap-time to 12:45, she wakes up herself at 2:30-2:45ish & is now going to sleep almost straight away at bedtime Grin
