Hello. Not sure if you're allowed to post on mumsnet if you're a dad. I ticked no for are you pregnant when registering anyway.
We Ferberized our son when he was about 6 months old and waking up multiple times a night. Only had to do it for an hour on night one and 15 minutes on night two he slept straight through every night thereafter.
7pm bedtime routine, bath, story, lay in the cot, kiss on the forehead, fast asleep within minutes, check back to the world of wakefulness in 12 hours. Like clockwork.
Until last weekend, now 19 months old.
Night 1.Controlled crying not working. Mattress right next to cot with me sleeping not working. Maybe due to Christmas breaking routine. Screamed the house down, tantrummed, wouldnt lie down, threw out his soft toy with dummy attached rabbit-bunny thing repeatedly, til about 5am.
Refuses to nap in cot the next day for first time ever, screams and tantrums, we give up. All very tired.
Night 2. Screaming etc. Gave up controlled crying halfway through night two and took him into our bed as we now with surprise realise he's crying with separation anxiety (which we feel awful about now we realise) Conked out within seconds however didnt sleep that well, as he doesnt in our bed. Woke up a lot, kicked and squiggled, wife very tired in morning. As is he.
Daycare day. Nursery report he slept fine in their cot, ate well, and no signs of anxiety all day.
Night 3. Clearly hates cot so set up little bed for him in playroom, which will be his new bedroom. I sleep next to him. Cries madly if I'm not there, almost psychic like ability to tell if I'm creeping out the door regardless of how deeply asleep he seems to be.
Migrates from his mattress to mine. Kicks and squiggles much of the night, obviously hes trying to nod off but cant.
Dad and baby pretty tired in the morning,
Anyone any ideas why at 19 months he has suddenly gone from a brilliant sleeper to completely panic stricken without us? He has a rabbit thing with a dummy he needs to sleep but that used to be his only sleep association prop. He was 'losing' it and waking up a few times a night crying lately and we were going to try removing it.
Tired and we both have stressful jobs to do.
