Amby Natures Nest Hammock - what to 'wrap' a newborn in in it?

Hi all,

A newbie here. I'm expecting my first LO in March and planning on having the baby sleep in an Amby Hammock in our room. I hope this isn't a strange question but what blankets/covers are best for a newborn in a hammock? I've got blankets and gro-bags (not to use at the same time), or would it be better to swaddle?
Any other advice if you've experience of the Amby would be great... Thanks

I think Amby say not to swaddle them, but we did. However, to make sure he couldn't roll and get stuck, which is the issue with swaddling, I rolled up two hand towels and put one along either side, so that he was secured in the middle.

I swaddled him in a jersey sheet, and then put a moses basket size cellular blanket on top, but I didn't pull it up very high, just above his tummy.

Gro-bags are perfect after a certain weight, can't remember what it is off the top of my head. But some babies who have been swaddled like to be swaddled beyond the gro-bag weight.

My only regret with the Amby is that DS is still mainly co-sleeping at 12 weeks, so we haven't really had much use out of it. We're gradually trying to shift him over though. And he's definitely slept better in the Amby than in anything other than our bed.

Thanks for your advice, can't wait for baby Badshaw to arrive to give it a go!

We swaddle as well, we use a Miracle Blanket (check them out on Amazon) and a cellular blanket which is quite thick as it is folded up but we use it to sort of wedge her in.

Out of interest, where do your newborns sleep in the daytime? I decided on the hammock as I had heard Moses baskets can not be used for very long. Had been hoping the hammock would be suitable for bringing up and downstairs but now its arrived it doesn't look like that's practical to do.

DS2 is 8 weeks and currently sleeping in the lounge in his carrycot. He's a sleepy baby though and fell asleep on our bed this morning and also sleeps in his bouncy chair. If I was a bit more organised I would tale him upstairs to sleep in the Amby to give DS1 a bit more of my attention. DS1 was a hideous sleeper and mostly slept on me. We bought the Amby this time in the hope that it would cure out problems. Turns out it's all down to the baby's personality! Good luck.

Used grobags for both DDs.

Also didn't have a moses basket, put both of them down in the hammock during their daytime naps. They go down to two or three main sleeps a day quite quickly and it is useful to have them out of the way for a bit! When DD2 was a tiny baby and couldn't face walking up and down the stairs all day she dozed in the sling or on the sofa on a sheepskin Blush.
But by about 6 weeks or so was in a vaguely more organised routine so would put her into the hammock for naps.

Amby's are fantastic, you won't look back, especially wonderful when they start to bounce themselves back to sleep!

Hahahahaha! On me mostly! Better now, she sleeps in the hammock or the sling. The hammock is too big too move up and down the stairs.
