hi

ds sleeps in a hammock beside our bed and he co sleeps once im in bed and he's woken up. I always dim the lights but theres still quite a lot of visibility through the night. As its our room too, iv never used blackouts and i still use a fairly strong night light. Would it really make a difference if we used blackout blinds and had complete darkness?? I keep reading about darkness in the room, but it seems possible only for babies who sleep in a separate room. Obviously, ds sleeps earlier than us and when i go to bed i need the light on for a short while to get changed, read for a bit etc. But if it will really make a difference to my terrible sleeper ill do it :)

How old is he? Once DS1 got to a certain age he would never switch off unless the room was in darkness. He's 7 now and still really observant and a bit of a worrier - I really think that having the room dark when he was a baby stopped him looking round the room and fretting about things. He couldn't see anything so he just went to sleep!

I just did the same when DS2 was little, but to be honest, the big down side was that they never slept anywhere but in a proper cot in the total darkness. They never slept in their pram when we were out and about during the daytime, which was a right bugger......

he's 7 months...hmm i dont want to create a situation where he needs the darkness to sleep. Right now he seems fine with the semi darkness, i guess i was wondering because so many ppl talk about complete darkness...

Thanks

I'm not sure I'd do the total darkness thing again to be honest. It's not very good if you want your baby to be flexible about where it sleeps!!

If it is working for you atm i wouldnt change anything, you may decide in the summer when the sunlight is streming in at 5 am that you need blackouts but i would wait and see if it causes you any problems

We have a plug in moonlight that gives enough light to be able to change etc while still keeping the room in near darkness. Seems to work pretty well and DD naps in daylight as well.
