What does your baby wear to bed?

Now it's getting cooler at night, I have a dilemma over DD's nightwear - I don't want her to get too hot in the early part of the night, nor too cold in the later part of the night. A chance comment by a Mum friend of mine about what her son wears to bed got me wondering whether DD (5 1/2 months) is waking up because I keep her too cool at night!

(It doesn't help that the wall thermometer measures the temperature in DD's room as 3 degrees C higher than her baby monitor.)

Anyway, I'd really appreciate any feedback about what your DC wears at night: vest/sleepsuit/pyjamas/grobag/blankets/sheets etc, and what temperature their room is.

Thanks!

At the moment DD's in a winter Grobag with a longsleeved body underneath (we're in London and it's starting to turn chilly!)

Nobody tells you that the BEST thing about Grobags is they contain all those middle-of-the night explosions

My dd is 17 months and I have her in proper pyjamas and she has a cot bed duvet over her until we go to bed then I put a blanket over her too

I'm in the NE. DS (1 year) currently wears a long sleeve/long leg body suit (with feet cut off) in a 2.5 tog Gro Bag. And 4 fleece blankets on top. he does seem to feel the cold! His room is about 21C.

Agree with the comment on Grobags containing poo explosions!! (it's only happened to us once).

Mine in 15 mths. Babygro, all in one bodysuit and a sheet and about three little blankets that come on and off at night due to his threashing.

DD 16 months - long sleeve/leg pjs and 2.5 tog sleeping bag.

Kelly1978 · 29/09/2005 09:54

I have the heatign set to maintain 24C and put them to bed in sleepsuit, vest, thin grobag, and a thick blanket too. I find they sleep much better if they are nice and warm. I find the recomended temperatures are far too low.

mckenzie · 29/09/2005 09:56

DD's room (she's 7 months) was 18 last night so I put her in short sleeved babygro, long sleeved PJ top and 2.5 tog grobag. The difference between now and winter time I think is that at the moment the temperature doesn't drop very much during the night, or at least not in DD's room nor DS's room. I have a thermo thing which I re-set last night that measures the current temperature and the highest and lowest and this morning all three showed 18.

This is SO helpful. Thank you! Keep the replies coming - it's very interesting to compare.

DD's room would be significantly colder than 24 degrees btw. I had the heating on for 1 hour about 8 last night and we are in Yorkshire.

Kelly1978 · 29/09/2005 10:50

an hour in yorks? I must be cold blooded. I would freeze. I lived in yorks for a while, and had heating on all time.

Gobbledigook · 29/09/2005 10:52

At the moment, ds3 (13 months) is in vest, long sleeve and long leg PJs and a grobag (though he escapes from this most nights which is why we put a vest on - his top rides up and his tummy must get cold!

BROWNY · 29/09/2005 10:53

My ds is 16 months old - he worn last night; his vest, long sleeved babygro and his 2.5 tog sleeping bag, with his favourite think quilt-like blanket over him! He always sleeps through the night! HTH

starlover · 29/09/2005 10:54

my ds is in a babygro and 2 blankets

we have no central heating or anything

gingernut · 29/09/2005 10:57

ds1 (nearly 4) long-sleeved and legged PJs and 4.5 tog duvet. He wears a vest at night if it's cold (not cold yet IMO, we are in the SE). ds2 (10 months), long-sleeved and legged PJs and 1 tog grobag (will add vest/change to 2.5 tog grobag as it gets cooler).

Bozza · 29/09/2005 11:07

DS - long sleeve top and short leg pjs and thinnish v. old duvet. And took some waking this morning!

Kelly you do sound a little cold blooded! I think I am about average but my two children are little hot bods. DS got home last night and I asked him to get changed - he re-appeared in a football shirt and shorts (note to self - hide DS's shorts).
