Getting 11 week old to sleep longer in morning!?

My 11 week DS is waking for a feed around 2.30am, then 5.30am. I am BF. After the 5.00-5.30 am, despite him going to sleep initially, he then wakes at 6AM and seems ready to get up - i.e not hungry, just wants cuddles, stimulation etc.
I know this is probably a usual getting up time but with the feed before, it actually means we are really getting up at 5am as we're not getting any sleep after this.
Any ideas of for example, how I could get him to not wake at 5 but wake at 6, which would be fine or vice versa!
(In the eve he's put to bed around 7.30, when he then sleeps til the 2.30 feed).
Thank you Smile

Bring him into bed with you at 5.30 and feed lying down, that way he might drop off for longer?

What happens if you ignore him at 6, is he actually crying? If he's not unhappy, you should be able to leave him and he might get the message.

How much is he sleeping in the day? If you can try and reduce the length of his daytime naps that might help him sleep longer at night.

He'll definitely sleep for longer as he gets older, i.e. will stop waking for the 5.30am feed - you just need to accept less sleep while he's this young.

Thanks for your reply.

He is actually full on crying at 6 -wide awake and only cuddling, playing, taking him out of the nursery seems to stop it.

How much he sleeps during the day varies and he's not put down for set naps - is this a good idea? Does have the feed, play sleep pattern though.

I suppose, we've got it better than some posts here!..

I had some good success at lengthening sleep with a total blackout (actually use towels wedged into the window frame). If you still have to do a feed at 5 you would then be able to put him back down in total darkness and that may help.

Maybe just make a note of how much daytime sleep he's getting for a few days, and make sure it isn't more than about 4 hours. Babies all need different amounts of sleep I realise, but this is about average for 11 week olds.
