2 year old won't get out of my bed

My son is 2 in a few weeks and recently he's decided he likes sleeping in our bed. We sort of ignored it because it's cold, I'm 4 months pregnant so I have been very tired and he always starts off in his own bed (goes to sleep on his own) and only wakes up in the early hours.

However he has started to wait 10 minutes after bedtime and then start crying to go into our bed. when he goes in there I just leave him (don't lie down) and he goes off to sleep, so he isn't in any discomfort etc.

We've taken the sides off his cotbed incase he didn't like bars, no change. We've encouraged himk to cuddle a toy giraffe at night, it just means the giraffe has also come into out bed.

So my question is, to co sleepers, should I just ignore it and he'll grow out if it? What age did your kids decide to go back to their own bed? I'm not sure I can cope with 2 kids in my room (and a giraffe) once the baby is here.

hi row78, didn't want you to be ignored! We also co sleep but haven't got to the point of trying to move baby into her own bed (she's 1) - try this link -

Good luck with this and baby no 2.x

we are co-sleepers. generally i find most of my kids have moved outof the big bed by 2.5 or when the next one comes along.

however, i do often wake up to find more than one in there.

i am pretty relaxed about beds, and allow them to sleep wherever they want, but try to encourage the older ones to fall alseep in any bed but mine, just purely for the fact i cant lift them into top bunks these days.

If you really don't want him to sleep there, I have found bribery to be quite successful. Although my DS is older than yours - not sure if it would work on a 2YO. He chose a toy he really really wanted and he got a sticker every night he stayed in his bed and after five stickers, he got the toy. By that time, he'd got the hang of sleeping in there again.

Otherwise it's the pain route I'm afraid and you have to do the going in every minute, then every 2, then 3 etc etc until he goes to sleep. That takes a bit less time but it a bit more stressful
