CC for naps?

Those of you who have used CC successfully for older babies, could you tell me if you used it for naps as well. Very good first night last night with DD (15
mo). Slept after 6 minutes at bedtime, 10 minutes at first waking and 2 minutes at second waking! Only nightweaned from BF 3 nights ago, so lots of progress. In the day I BF for naps if we're at home, or else it's the car. Don't want to confuse her. Should I cc for naps? Now or leave it a while?

Bump before nap time!

I think the usual recommendation is to do CC for all sleep so the child gets the message. It's what we did.

It is harder to sort naps so don't be surprised if it takes a week or so to sort. If she won't fall asleep herself, it's better to take her in the car or pram for an "emergency" nap than to feed to sleep. Self settling at night and feeding to sleep in the day sends a mixed message.

Good luck.

OP,
When I night weaned my first two children, I still continued to feed to sleep for naps and even last feed before they went to sleep. It didn't confuse them :)

If you intend to continue to breastfeed during the day, you could still nurse before nap and main sleep. As you already know, one of the biggest advantages to still feeding, is having such an easy way to get a baby/toddler to sleep with no fuss.

Best of luck tonight.

Teapot13,
What is 'the message' that the child get when you CC ?

Nope, although consistency is important, naps and night time sleep are different beasts.

With a little sleep training, I managed to get my 7.5 mo DD from needing my breast in her mouth in order to sleep overnight. That worked fine.

But naps? Nah, forget it. Sleep training with them was getting us nowhere and sometimes in desperation I would let her snooze at the breast just to make sure she had some kip during the day. But it didn't cause us problems at bedtime, when she would (and still does) voluntarily unlatch herself so I could put her in the cot for sleep.

I've decided the amount of crying and stress doesn't justify the pitiful amounts of sleep DD gets during her cot naps, so now we go for a couple of walks a day and she naps reasonably well in her buggy. And although I don't get a chance to get other stuff done, it's less hassle all round. AND it means DH can do naps as well (when he's not at work) as she doesn't need to be feeding in order to sleep.

So the moral of this story is, do what works best for naps, but don't worry that it will mitigate the effects of your overnight sleep training - it almost certainly won't.

Brilliant, thanks. I do want to carry on BF so will continue that at nap time when convenient. She was so tired this afternoon that she fell asleep before getting to the breast.
