Bedside crib - any advice?

DD (6 weeks) is not a big fan of her moses basket - she'll stay in it for a few hours in the early evening, and then fusses until she comes in our bed (and sometimes even this doesn't work). I'm not keen on putting her in a proper cot when she's so unsettled and little but I'm conscious that she'll soon outgrow the moses.

Has anyone tried a bedside crib which has a drop down side so it slots up against your bed? I've seen a few but they're all hideously expensive for something that might not suit us. Any recommendations (I need some sleep!!)

I use a bedside cot, not crib. To be honest now DD can roll, she tends to act like a little heat seeking missile and makes her way over to my side. I make sure she is not able to get near a pillow, and the duvet is round my waist, so no chance of her suffocating. It's pretty much co-sleeping, but with a bit more room, since she does have her own space if she will use it.

I chose this over a crib because I can put the side up and move her into her own room (hahah!) at some point and not have to shell out for another bed until she gets a big girl bed.

Its a cossato one, if you are interested.

We got a cot from Ikea(read: cheap) which can be put up with one side off. With the mattress it happens to almost match the height of our mattress but if it doesn't all you would have to do is drill 4 holes to get the right height. The cot is attached to our bed frame with bungee cord(doesn't move at all) and then I stuffed a foam wedge down the little gap, cot sheet covers the foam and tucks in next to my mattress. Nearly seamless, cost effective and can be used as a toddler bed later on.

A bit like lillylane. We got a cot from freecycle and DH made feet for it to make it taller and made a few other adjustments to make it stable with a side off. It is cable tied to our bed and we have rolled up towels on the far side to make the mattress reach our mattress. DD seems pretty happy with the arrangement, but does end up snuggled up to me by morning - I would be stricter, but I love it. I would have thought that a crib would be outgrown too soon.
