4 month old 'meltdown' due to over tiredness?

Just wondered if anyone has had any experience with their baby having a complete meltdown due to over tiredness...i think?! My 4 month old sleeps really well at night, from 8pm - 11pm - dream feed, through until 7-8am following morning. Absolutely no complaints there. The problem is during the day she doesn't always nap and inevitably ends up crying/screaming before I put her down to sleep in the evening. I then spend the next 30min-1hr desperately trying to console her. She screams so much I think she is going to be sick and no amount of soothing calms her down. Its so painful to watch. Even when she has had a few good naps in the day, if she is up for more than an hour and I miss a sleep cue, she can have a meldown. This can also happen during the day at anytime/any place if she gets tired. Eventually she screams so much, she falls to sleep. No matter what I do I don't seem to be able to get it right and avoid this happening. I am almost sure its overtiredness, but I do worry as she gets so distressed that I am missing something. She had a habit of doing this when she was 2 months old, but seemed to get over it. Now its returned and Im not sure why? Any ideas?

I have the same problem with my 4 month old - like you he also sleeps great at night but goes mental in the day when he is tired. I almost think the meltdown is some sort of wind down as he always drops off to sleep right after!

Thats exactly what happens to me! Its so frustrating. I am currently sitting watching her waiting for her to show a sign of tiredness, so I can whip her straight into her crib! I have been reading a few posts and it seems this is fairly common at around 4 months. Is yours baby showing any signs of teething? Mine is sucking at her fist furiously and her cheeks are a bit red, but I think its too early.
