Matresses....

I know I'm probably going to get lots of outraged mums responding to this, but here goes: Did anyone use the same cot matress for their kids?

Am just about to order brand new cot mattress online for our new baby, spoke to my mum who was amazed I was buying a totally new matress. TBH, haven't really thought about it - just know how everyone goes on about the problems with second hand matresses. I'm perfectly happy to get a new one, money not an issue on this, so just wanted some opinions really. Also, my parents have a cot at their house that DS slept in for about 25 nights, tops. Does that one have to be replaced too?

Also, how the h*ll do you spell matress ?

Thanks all x

Last I heard it wasn't thought to be a contributory factor in SIDS and we didn't replace the ones at grand parents. Did get one for the main cot as ds had rather contoured his old one.

for siblings it's fine to use the same mattress (SIDS website says so - I'd post a link but have to go and mother my children.)

it's only other people's children you have to worry about.

I've heard such different advice on this too. Some say it's a load of rubbish and simply to get you to pay another £120 for a lovely sprung mattress, some say it is contributing factor to cot death. I'd be interested too to find out what the latest is on this.

Latest from SIDS website...

Thanks JABM - seems to indicate that you don't need a new mattress every time, at least from a SIDS point of view. Does anyone know if you need to clean the mattress in a certain way?

DS yelling, need to go?!?

Thanks all xx

oh right - I've just checked the UK site and they've updated it to suggest that any second hand mattress is OK as long as it's firm and clean.

brill - thanks for that.
