Using white noise all the time. Is this a problem?

Ds is 13 weeks and I've just started implementing a routine. It's going pretty well. Before, he wasn't getting enough daytime sleep and would only sleep on me or in the pram after a walk outside.
Now for daytime naps I put him in his pram indoors but he will only fall asleep if I put the hoover on (I turn it off when he's asleep).
He often then wakes after about 30-40 mins and I have to out the hoover on to get him back to sleep.
He's a bit better at night but I still often need to use white noise to get him back off to sleep.

I've tried soothing him but shhing and patting but he just screams louder.

I'm pretty happy with how things are but think it would be better if he could just fall asleep by himself without white noise.

Any thoughts?

Could you get a little white noise machine, rather than having to use the hoover all the time?

When DD2 was tiny she used to like having the light when she went to sleep.

My Mum got her a little nightlight thing that plays music, so we put that on when she goes off to sleep. At this stage it's like a cue that it's sleepy time.

Would that really be a problem?

I think perhaps gradually turning the sound down on the noise might phase it out (for the hoover I guess you'd have to move it furtheraway / into another room?

you're doing well though, better than i am with 12wk old ds :)

yeah that might work cosmosis, I'll give it a try today. I need to hoover some other rooms anyway!

spidookly we have recorded some white noise onto his baby monitor which we use at night but it's easier to use the hoover when downstairs (plus it means I sometimes actually do some hoovering!)

We still use white noise during the day, and DS is 4.5 months now.

He will settle well at night for DH but not for me, I think he can smell milk and is always hungry so wont go to sleep without encouragement.

We both have white noise app's on our phones so use these. I used to hoover but DS needs it to be totally dark to go to sleep.

We use an air purifier with a fan in DS's room to drown out noise from the street, from neighbours and from us, and he is 14 months old. No problems there. Have a white noise machine with a similar sounding noise for trips. Makes him feel more at home I guess (we also have a night light for him, which we also take on trips).

We used a white noise CD/MP3 downloaded from the internet (you can get hoover ones too). My DD grew out of the need for white noise around 6 months by herself so don't worry, you may not need to use it forever. If you get a MP3 then you could gradually reduce the volume of the noise over time to wean your DC off it.

We use a White noise app on the IPhone. My house probably isn't as clean as yours with all that hoovering!
It's amazing watching him. Sometimes he is crying because he is tired and you switch the white noise on and he listens intently then falls asleep on the spot! He is 14 weeks. He mainly sleeps through now, but if he does wake up for a feed then we try not to use the White noise at night so he can get used to dropping off without it. We do use it for daytime naps and quite often use it to get him to sleep in the evening. I would like to wean him off it eventually, as we don't use it every time, hopefully this won't be too bad..

I can remember running the sink tap really hard would make our stop crying when they were tiny. Not overly practical though. I think looking into some sort of recorded white noise which you can turn up and down would be best.

We use a pink noise CD, or downloaded from the internet or the radio tuned to nothing. We only use it at night and turn it down/off after 1-2 hours. We are planning to reduce it, but not too bothered as it works.
