Making cot cosy, inviting and safe-feeling for transfer from hammock/co-sleeping

8 mo DD has slept in an Amby hammock for the start of the night for a few months now. For the rest of the night we co-sleep in order to cope with her numerous wakenings (path of least resistance but also probably perpetuating the problem, I know).

We've been trying to get her to view her cot as a safe and pleasant place with a view to her moving into it asap as she's really far too agile and active to be safe in the hammock. Last night forced our hand somewhat when, whilst resisting being put to bed in the first place, she managed almost to pull herself to standing in the hammock. So, into the cot she went.

I warmed the sheet with a hot water bottle, used rolled up blankets under the sheet to make a kind of nest and fed her until she was practically comatose but her radar kicked in and she screamed blue bloody murder when put in the cot. For 2 1/2 hours. And, yes, either DH or I were with her the whole time. I tried PUPD to no avail and eventually DH cracked and brought her downstairs. Eventually I fed her to sleep and she spent 90 mins in the cot.

What to do? I hate having her cry and, anyway, it disturbs DS in the next door room. But she needs to sleep! She will sleep for hours (albeit with feed wake-ups) if I hold her or lie down with her but I go back to work soon and something has to change.

Oh, and it's the same story for naps. I've had recent limited success with the "Pantley Pull Off" from the No Cry Sleep Solution but generally she naps on me or, sometimes, in the pushchair or car. She used to nap well in the sling but won't at all now.

Sorry this is so long but thanks for reading if you've got this far.
