Baby sleeping on his side?

Well after a good few weeks of very disturbed sleep I think I know what's happening. DS has reflux I think - I know I know it's a catch all for everything but DD had it and he is displaying same symptoms.

Randomly doing choking sounding coughs in his sleep and waking up, won't lie on his back, being sick alot. Also happy to sleep in pram when back slightly raised.

Last night after trying to get him settled for ages I put him on his side and he relaxed and slept for longer than he has in a while.

I have the cot mattress at an angle but this isn't really helping. He is 4month, can I risk side sleeping? Was thinking about a positioner but read somewhere they weren't safe? or should I try a wedge? Any ideas?

Anyone? Or is there a thread on reflux anywhere? I can't find one but recall there was one.

DS, now three was very refluxy too. you have my sympathies, it's tough. I seem to remember sleeping him on his side fairly early on- nothing else seemed to work. DS2 is five weeks old and will only sleep on his tummy

we slept ds on his side all the time he was very rarely on his back, I used rolled up towels to wedge him in and then bought a wedge thing. he had bad wind and reflux and he slept better on his side.

DS slept on his side from about 3 months, and still does now (8 months). He often sleeps on his tummy as well, and has done from about 4 months when he learnt to roll over.

I never saw anything wrong with it. Like your DS, he suffered from reflux, and was just far more comfortable sleeping on his side. When he was younger, I used to shove a soft toy behind hs bottom to stop him rolling onto his back and waking up. I think you can buy sleep positioners that do a very similar thing.

Thanks. However the side sleeping didn't really work out last night so maybe isn't the way forward. Will have to see.

ds prefers his side, I put his back against the wall of the basket and a rolled up towel at front ( low down) to stop him rolling on to front.
