Sleep hell. Need escape proof sleeping bag

DS2 has taken serious step backward with his sleep. It's like the perfect storm.

He can now climb out of his cot, except when he's in his sleeping bag. Trouble is he can get out of that too. I tried using nappy pins to do it up at the top (instead of the poppers) but he ripped those open Shock.

He's 21 months and suddenly refusing to go to sleep at night. Normally I would leave him to settle himself but I worry he will hurt himself. He didn't go to sleep til 930 last night (normally 730)

This morning he woke at 6 because he'd kicked his blankets off and is up for the day.

I'm beyond fed up!

Help.

Put it on back to front Wink

fruitstick · 20/11/2010 07:43

Tried that before I resorted to safety pins Grin.

The one he has has poppers on the shoulders. Are there 18 36 month ones that zip down the front?

It sounds like you're using one with poppers on the shoulders?

If so, try one of the style that you put on like a jacket and then zips down the front.

I'm now scared though, as DS is 21 months in a couple of weeks and sleeps badly enough without him being able to climb out of his cot Shock.

x-post. I didn't think you could buy 18m+ ones with poppers on shoulders, because of the problem you're having.

We have ones from Grobag and Mothercare I think, which both zip down the front only.

Right! I'm off to John Lewis!

My JL one zipps from the top to the bottom rather than the normal way iyswim, so DS would need to unzipp the entire length before he could escape. Good luck!

If he can climb out of the cot, then it's time to move him into a toddler bed, or a mattress on the floor, which is what we did with dd1 when she hurt herself climbing out of the cot at 18 months.

fruitstick · 20/11/2010 08:18

Belgo I knew someone was going to say that

I'm not ready Shock Shock

Grin sounds like he is though!

ohforfoxsake · 20/11/2010 08:33

Have you tried putting it on inside out? Bit fiddly, but it works!

ohforfoxsake · 20/11/2010 08:35

Oh read the thread properly OFFS! Only had zip down ones, so don't know if it works with poppered!

chrispt · 20/11/2010 21:16

Use Duck tape (other tapes also available) or lock him in a box. Poke holes in the top, he'll be fine :P

fruitstick · 20/11/2010 22:11

Chris, it had fleetingly crossed my mind why nobody makes a cot with a lid Grin.

New sleeping bag is a triumph so far. When to bed with barely a whimper (might be fluke)

Box with holes poked in it a good idea - or this
cot lids

Try a back zipping sleep sack by June and the Moon! They are super soft and stretchy, are made for toddlers and little kids, and are designed to be escape-proof AND comfortable!
