When does baby go into their own room?

I am jumping way ahead here as my DD is only 6 weeks old, but I was wondering for the future, when people put the cot and baby into their own room?

Thanks

Official advice which we followed with both ours is 6 months. But know people who have done it at any time between birth and 1 or more TBH.

Laylasmum · 20/09/2005 22:24

Laylasmum was your DD still waking for night feeds when you moved her at 3 weeks?

And the same Monstersmummy at 2 months?

Thanks!

With both mine, not till they were a year old.

But I didn't have a baby monitor.

PoofieWuddle · 20/09/2005 22:29

DD went in own room at 3 months - slept through the night from that day.

Carla · 20/09/2005 22:29

Bozza, why at birth? Talk about making life hard on yourself ....

Okay, okay, I know we've left it far too long, but just being woken up's hard enough, without having to trek into a different room countless times a night!

monstersmummy · 20/09/2005 22:30

yes he was...he had 2 feeds thru night for ages and woke early....was very predictable and easy going tho which prob made it easier altho tbh i can't fully rememvber

Fimbo · 20/09/2005 22:30

Both of mine, were in their own rooms the day they came home from hospital!!

Nat777 · 20/09/2005 22:32

So you had to go to their room for night feeds Fimbo? Sorry to keep asking questions. Did you have long before they slept through the night?

Gobbledigook · 20/09/2005 22:32

As soon as possible - can't sleep with them snuffling in my room!

Caligula · 20/09/2005 22:32

I never got woken up by them once they slept through the night, unless they were ill or something.

It's amazing what you get used to. It's a bit like having a train line outside your bedroom. After a while, you get used to the noise of the goods trains and it doesn't wake you up. Same with babies' snufflings.

Fimbo · 20/09/2005 22:32

My dd slept throught the night from 3.5 weeks old and ds at 6-8 weeks, which I think was because their were fed in their rooms and put straight back into their beds again. They are both still excellent sleepers at 7 & nearly 2.

Carla · 20/09/2005 22:33

Fimbo, I admire you enormously for that. But how could you bear to wake up and not see them immediately?

Nat777 · 20/09/2005 22:35

Sorry last time, promise! I am considering putting DD in her room within the next few weeks. But she tends to have such small feeds during the night, so wakes again as she is hungary, surely this wont change even if she is in her own room? Might have to just try it!

OP posts:
monstersmummy · 20/09/2005 22:42

doubt it will change if she is hungry she will wake up wherever she is sleeping BUT u may get a better uality of sleep even if the first night is spent with ur ear glued to the m,onitor and getting up and down to check on her!!

Fimbo · 20/09/2005 22:44

Carla, they were in the room immediately next door to us - so we were with them in seconds anyway. With ds (my youngest) baby monitor broke (on loan from a friend) after 2 weeks and we didn't bother getting another!!

Nat - give it a go, both of mine were bottle fed though and would sink 8oz bottles easily.

Nat777 · 20/09/2005 22:48

My DD is bottle fed and during the night I am lucky if she takes 2oz and she is alseep again!

She does seem to average 3 hours kip between the night feeds, so maybe I hadnt ought to moan?

8oz, blimey that is loads! I dont know how to get her to take more, or maybe I should just let her have what she wants.

DD went into her own room from 2 weeks. Just couldn't sleep with her there, she made so much noise. Room is next door and I leave our bedroom door open and I can hear if she cries. Other noises are muffled which I think is best. If she wants me I know she'll cry. She went through without a feed (bottle fed) from 12 weeks. But it took till 4 months for quality of sleep to improve and she has been sleeping 7 to 7 most nights.
Nat - you say she doesn't take very much. Are you waking for her a 'dream feed' the first time or letting her wake you? Also, how big is she?

jambot · 21/09/2005 05:58

sorry ....her for...

Nat777 · 21/09/2005 09:30

She was weighed yesterdaay at 9lb 12oz and her weight gain has been fine.

We bath her at around 8pm and after a feed she is normally down for around 10pm. Would you suggest a dream feed?

my baba was 7 months before we moved her into her bedroom (after i painted her bedroom) as it got to the point where she stick her head out of the cot (before she could stand up) and was shouting at us to get up so no problems being in her own bedroom as shes happy to play in her cot till we get up!

beansprout · 21/09/2005 09:51

We waited until 6 months but boy did we have a snorer/snuffler/shuffler!! When he finally had the first night in his room I was so anxious you'd think he had gone backpacking or something!
