Bedside cots - what do you do for daytime naps if you can't leave baby in there unattended?

Our DS (7.5 wks) is very difficult to settle to sleep, but we tried co-sleeping last night and it went really well, so we're now contemplating buying a bedside cot. He'll probably outgrow his moses basket in a month or so, and he's never seemed that crazy about it anyway.

I like the look of the Arm's Reach one because you can use it as a freestanding cot and a travel cot too. But I see from their website that they tell you NEVER (their capitals) to leave the baby unattended in the cot.

Those of you that have one, what do you do for daytime naps or early evening before you go up to bed? Can you put the side up while it's in co-sleeping mode or do you have to detach it from the bed first?

Or does anyone have a different type of bedside cot that allows you to put side up while still attached to the bed?

Hmm, interesting question.
We have a sidecar cot and DD is up there now asleep with the side off. She is 7 months and just beginning to crawl!! She is also up there for her naps as well [bad mother emoticon].
I just make sure I peg it up the stairs when I hear her wake (and have the monitor on high).
Hmm, you've made me think now. Time to move her into her cot in her own room methinks (like my co-sleeping boob monster will ever accept that!!)

Hmm, maybe I'm just being paranoid - or maybe it's because the AR is an American invention and they're ultra careful about avoiding being sued Hmm. I've never seen this on any of the other bedside cots I've seen.

Which one do you have, and has it worked out well for you? We'll probably be wanting to move DS into his own room at 6 months or so but am prepared for a bit of a fight there ... !

We have a Bambino World bedside cot. Just looked at their website I couldn't find it so I wonder if it has been discontinued??
Anyway - I like it, and it has been great for us, particularly in the early days when she was feeding loads. I'm actually quite keen to get her into her own room now, particularly because you've made me think about the safety aspects.
It doubles up as a proper cot though so you can still use it.

Great, thanks Gargula. Good luck with moving dd into her own room!

we have used a silvercross cot with the side off since ds was a week or two old, its been fantastic, and couldnt reccomend enough!
Ds is now 6months and he has all his naps upstairs in it. Not sure what the problem is until they start crawling, then obv it is dangerous.
We are also nervously contemplating moving him into his own room.
