3 week old only sleeping 2 hours at night, when will it get better??????

And the 2nd hour only because dh got up and took him to sleep on him while I slept.

I'm ebf, and most of the time (if not all) he is awake he wants to eat - otherwise dh would step in more!

I'm just getting worried about how I am going to cope with a toddler as well when dh goes back to work next week.

When the baby (ds2) does fall asleep, I can't get him into his cot - he wakes up crying for more food after about 15-30 minutes. Day times are similar in that he wants to be held all of the time...

Any advice/ words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated!!!

He's still really young. It will get better very soon I expect. You will get advice on here - suggestions of co-sleeping if that works for you.

My LO is now 4 months and was the same, settled down into 2 or 3 nightwakings after about 4 weeks. Of course now he is in a 4 month sleep regression so we are pretty much struggling again!

Good luck.

Do you swaddle?I have swaddled both of mine which definitely helped them feel secure and cosy.

as in, he only sleeps for 2 hours at a time or he literally only has 2 hours of sleep?

if the former thenm that's normal, and good for your supply! it may last quite some time tho

i was a really reluctant co-sleeper, but ended up doing it through sheer necessity with ds2 and it works well for us now. i wish i had had a bedside cot tho!

if it's the latter then all i can do is give you sympathy!!! and fingers crossed he gets better soon

during the day have you tried having him in a sling?

moonstorm · 09/11/2010 11:56

No it's the latter :(

I have a sling, for the day, but don't know what to do at night. Last night I was so tired he slept on me while /i dozed from 2.30 to 6.30... I would co-sleep, but our mattress is so soft, I worry he might end up rolling towards me because of the indentation IYSWIM.

He is leeping more in the night on me, but I can't get him in hid cot, so I only get a couple of hours...

My DS was like this and he had reflux hence not wanting to lie flat in a cot (also had a toddler to cope with). Could this be a possibility? I co-slept in the end as it was so much easier and any sleep was better than none :) It will get better.

Oh an Amby hammock saved me and my sanity! Can you sleep in a different bed?

thisisyesterday · 09/11/2010 12:36

yeah co-sleeping worked for us once i got to the point where i was SO tired i couldn't help but fall asleep while feeding lol

what i eventually did was take the side off the cot and push it up to our bed, we were lucky that on its highest setting it matched the level of our bed, that helped a little bit

Are Amby hammocks safe then? I am sure I read somewhere about them being recalled in the USA. Any info on them from the UK?
