Have your children ever sleep walked?

Ds2 did earlier and obviously thought he was in the bathroom when he wasn't.

He wee'd in the toy box that has all the car, trains, planes etc. There's probably 250+ little toys in there which I have now got to wash.

Apart for it being slightly annoying I think it's unusual for a 4 yr to sleep walk.

Is it?

my dd1 sleep wals and talks. i just turn her round and put herback to bed. she can be chatting away to me about random stuff whilst walking, put her back into bed and she starts snoring as soon as head touches pillow.

No, but ds often laughs in his sleep.

My dd is the same as misdee's although hasn't happened for a while now. She's 9.

My dd2 does - she is 6.5 and has done it for a while now. She goes to the loo during the night and doesn't really wake up, but will quite often appear in the living room muttering incoherently and has to be redirected to the bathroom.

Last night she came into the living room, I sent her to the bathroom, she then reappeared in the living room with a bath sponge (????) - I told her to put it back in the bathroom, but found it later on in my bedroom (squelch!!!)

I used to sleep walk too as a child - we had to have stairgates up because I almost fell down the stairs once - my dad caught me as I toppled over

ds has done it a couple of times - usually with him being very disorientated on holiday or in a new place and looking for the bathroom. His night time toilet accidents have occurred then.

I don't know whether it's unusual, but I used to do it, between the ages of 4 and 14. I used to wake up in all kinds of weird places, and I used to walk all around the house turning the lights on, then walk all the way back turning them back off again.

My sister did and continues to do, actually she is so afraid of that that every time she goes in holidays she blocks the room's doors with luggage (She once woke up opening the fridge at midnight way out of her room! , sorry, obviously she doesn't find it that funny)

LadyTophamHatt · 16/09/2005 21:42

He'd been asleep on the sofa and had managed the walk upsrairs but then gone in the bed room and wee'd in the toybox.

Oh well, at least it was in the toybox and not on ds3 who was playing with all the toys in it!

Both Ds and I are sleepwalkers. DS started when he was about 2. As for the toilet thing, I think that is just a man thing not a sleepwalking thing, I have known men wee in the wardrobe, laundry bin etc LOL!! Ds even stood at the top of the stairs and took aim I think he was just looking for some sort of hole-shaped place . As for sleep walking, just chat away with them "oh hello, lets get you back to bed, shall we?" and steer them in the right direction. Don't discuss it with them in the morning, it can be rather embarassing for them. MIL wanted to put ds on valium to stop him sleepwakling... FFS

My mum has night terrors when she gets stressed - she dreamt the house was on fire and tried to leave the bedroom by the door - only the room had rotated in her mind and my dad found her climbing out of the bedroom window. The window was 70 feet above a concrete patio.......

Even writing it is upsetting me... we nailed the window up in the morning

i sleep walked on a few occassions as a child and remember one of the occassions as a dream. I grew out of it though. most dangerous thing I did was to go into the kitchen to get a pair of scissors to cut a hole in my duvet...
maybe more serious nigtmares and things, are linking the conscious with the subconscious and could be helped by finding out which real life events/fears are causing the nightmares/sleep walking??
