just curious to know what time 10mth olds rise at or any babies close to that age?
my dd goes to sleep at night at 8pm but wakes anywhere from 5.30 to 7am and wont go back to sleep, even with a small bottle. then she has bags under her eyes by 8am

would this be the norm for a baby going to sleep at 8, as she has had 10 hrs sleeep by 6am.

my dd2 has between 8-13hours sleep. last night she slept from 8pm to 8am. she is 11months old. if she wakes up early then she tends to have an early nap around 10am, if not, then she will have her usual nap before 2pm.

codswallop · 17/08/2003 08:53

I think that sounds normal. I am convinced that babies are born early or late wakers, and also that an earlier bedtime is preferable to a late morning. You need time alone on the evenings...

katierocket · 17/08/2003 11:04

agree with codswallop - I think (like adults) some children are naturally early wakers or not. My DS (22 months) has been waking up between 5.30 and 7 forever despite the many ways we've tried to stop it.

SamboM · 17/08/2003 11:45

My dd is 11 months, last night went to bed at 8pm and woke at 8.20am this morning. Usually goes to bed at 7.30 and wakes between 7 and 8 am

florenceuk · 17/08/2003 11:46

Yes, DS has always woken early, any time between 5.30 am and 7am, usually around 6-6.30 unfortunately. But have always tried to resist putting him down for early nap (not before 9am) as otherwise the whole day just goes out of whack.

hermykne · 17/08/2003 11:56

i agree with you codswallop, evening time alone or with dh/dp is preferable and much better for your sanity after the day!
so i may just get use to her early rising.me & my dh are both morning people so maybe its heredity

My kids didn't wake until 10.30 today .

codswallop · 17/08/2003 13:28

oh I totally agree - I always remind my dh of his luck in marrying a morning person!

cathncait · 17/08/2003 13:30

My dd is 12 months and usually wakes up around 5.30. I try not to get up till 6am as a rule (unless shes really lost it). She goes down at around 6.45pm so I think thats a pretty good sleep. The other day she woke up at 4.30!!!!!!! ahhhhhhhh. I still didn't get up till 6.00 but it was not pretty! She also has her morning nap by about 8.30 and will sleep for an hour and a half. then the same at 1.30pm. So can't complain about that!

FairyMum · 18/08/2003 07:44

My ds (25 months) has to get up for nursery at 7 during weekdays, but can sleep to around 9 at weekends which is very nice!

Welshmum · 18/08/2003 08:13

Does anyone know if they sleep later when they drop their daytime sleeps? Someone told me that that's when they start to go through to 8....not that I'm desperate or anything!

FairyMum · 18/08/2003 08:39

Welshmum, my ds still has a daytime nap most days. In my experience (with both my kids) they actually need their daytime nap to sleep well at night. If my ds doesn't nap, he tends to wake up earlier. I know it doesn't sound very logical to us, but I do believe that sleep breeds sleep. I guess all kids are different though...

Bobsmum · 18/08/2003 09:30

Fairymum - i think you're spot on. If kids learn about regular sleep times and aren't overtired in the evenings then they'll sleep better IMO.

ds (11 months) sleeps 7pm-8pm (9pm on holiday - wow!). He sleeps after his lunch for 1.5-2 hours and will occasionally go for a nap 9:30/10am if he's really looking tired.

Reasonably dark room (blackout blinds and curtains) and quiet make the difference for him.

wickedstepmother · 18/08/2003 09:39

My 12 month old DD goes to bed between 5.45 - 7.00pm and sleeps through to 7.00 - 8.00 am. We also manage to fit 2 naps in of about 1.5 and 2 hours in the day !

She was 'late' to sleep through, most of my friends had babies who were giving their parents 9 solid hours of uninterrupted rest at 2/3 months old, whereas DD didn't settle into a pattern until about 6/7 months. However, now she is the baby with the most regular sleeping pattern !

Demented · 18/08/2003 10:11

My DS2, 14 months, sleeps from between 7.30pm and 8.00pm to 8.00am, he still has either one long nap (3 or so hours) or two shorter naps (1.5 hours each) during the day.
